I have been obsessed with the stage since I was a little girl. I remember dressing up in my Sunday best and going to see The Nutcracker and falling in love with the characters and the dancing. I like to consider that very first Nutcracker performance my first “show”.
Fast forward to my 27th birthday. I was going to NYC for a week to stay with a friend who was a nanny and we decided to see a real live Broadway show!! We woke up at the crack of dawn and stood in the TKTS line in Times Square and got a great deal on tickets to see West Side Story. West Side Story would officially be the first musical I had ever seen on stage and I blame that on my musical obsession. I also blame all of the Wicked posters in Grand Central Station, they were gorgeous and I wanted to see that so bad!!
Since then I have seen numerous shows and I plan to see so many more if I get the chance!! So that, ladies and gentlemen, is what today’s blog post is all about…my Musical Bucket List!!
In no particular order here is my Musical Bucket List…
- Cats
- The King and I – September 2017
- The Little Mermaid – August 2017
- Rent
- Les Miserables – November 2017
- Hamilton – July 2019
- Chicago
- The Newsies
- Into the Woods
- Mamma Mia
- Finding Neverland – January 2018
- Legally Blonde
- Kinky Boots
- Aladdin
- Anastasia – June 2019
- An American in Paris
- The Book of Mormon – November 2019
I’m sure there are a few more but my brain stopped working after those 17…LOL!!
I live in central Arkansas and am lucky that a lot of good shows tour around this area. The Robinson Center in Little Rock just reopened this year after a two year massive renovation. I have seen several shows here…Beauty and the Beast (twice!), The Wizard of Oz, Wicked (twice!), Cinderella, and Phantom of the Opera!! This fall starts the new season and there are two shows I want to see…Kinky Boots and Les Miserables!! I hope I get to cross those two off my bucket list!
Another place I go to see shows pretty frequently is The Orpheum Theater in Memphis Tennessee. Memphis is only about 2 hours away from me and during the two years that the Robinson was shut down that’s where I would go! I love the Orpheum, it was built in 1928 and is on the National Register of Historic Places. They also have an amazing upcoming Broadway Series and I can’t wait to see The Little Mermaid, The King and I, An American in Paris and Finding Neverland. They are also in talks of getting Hamilton in the 2018-2-19 season!! Fingers are CROSSED for that one, although I do think it would be amazing to see in NYC. Some shows I have seen in Memphis include The Sound of Music, Annie, Matilda, The Lion King and Mary Poppins.
So there you have it, my musical obsession and my Musical Bucket List. I am also a hoarder of tickets and programs, I need to find something creative to do with them!! Such fun keepsakes!!
