Last week I took myself on a little solo trip to Memphis to see Matilda the Musical at the Orpheum Theater. You may recall I took this same trip around this time last year, but saw The Lion King instead.
Last year was my very first solo trip and I really enjoyed it! I am glad that I am comfortable enough to travel by myself, even if it is only for a night and only to a town a couple hours away. I am not going to miss doing or seeing something I want just because I can’t find anyone to go with me. Ok?
When I was planning my trip I decided to eat at the Cheesecake factory because I haven’t been in forever and Memphis just got one!! Yay for me!! I got the Louisiana Chicken Pasta and wound up taking half of that and my Turtle Cheesecake back to my hotel room to eat after the show!! I love me some Cheesecake Factory but man it fills me up!! YUM!!
I stayed at a Sheraton in Germantown and really loved my room! I actually got a King Suite with a living room and bedroom and it was way cheaper than a regular hotel room downtown! Score one for me!!
I got to the Orpheum early to take some pics and so I could valet park! The Orpheum in Memphis is downtown and not very safe for single ladies to walk around alone at night so the valet was much needed and nice since it was literally two steps away from the theater doors!
I have to say that while I was excited to go see Matilda I was kind of…ehhhh…since it’s a kid’s musical but let me tell you something, Matilda might just be my favorite show to date!! It was so much fun and very energetic and I laughed and just really loved the whole thing! It truly was an awesome show!!
On my way home the next morning I stopped at Starbucks and got a carmel frap to go and wouldn’t you know that this is the very first time my name has ever been spelled right on a Starbucks cup?! Woohoo!!
And you know I had to white girl out and get a “you are here collection” mug for my collection!! I am so excited about all of my mugs!! Now I just need to find a place to put them all!!

That must have been so much fun. I love Memphis. Nashville tends to get more of the spotlight these days, but Memphis is absolutely fantastic.

I haven’t seen Matilda, but it looks very good. I think it is awesome that you can travel by yourself. It always makes me a little anxious. It is something I need to work on in the new year.
