Last week I took myself on my very first solo trip!! I decided last fall that I wanted to go see The Lion King when it came to Memphis and I couldn’t find anyone who was able to go with me and I decided I wouldn’t miss it just because no one was able to go with me so I decided to go alone.
The timing was perfect and right after my 32nd birthday so it was a sort of single lady/first solo/birthday trip. Of course bad weather was threatening all week but I am so glad that it was clear that day and I got to go!
Memphis is about two hours from central Arkansas and was the perfect drive to listen to my latest audiobook and just think. The Lion King was at the Orpheum in Memphis which is just gorgeous!!
The Lion King is an amazing musical and I highly encourage you to go see it if you get the chance. I was blown away by all of the animals and choreography and caught myself crying tearing up a few times. I had a front row seat and it was honestly the experience of a lifetime.
After The Lion King I went to my hotel to check in. I treated myself right and stayed at The Westin in Memphis. Something happened to my reservation and I got upgraded to a junior suite!! Woohoo!!

After I got checked in I decided to walk to the Hard Rock Cafe and grab a bite to eat. It was weird to dine alone in such a fun place but I had a great time!! I have eaten lunch alone a ton but never dinner…luckily Memphis is great for people watching!
I started with a Southern Rock to drink and had the Twisted Mac and Cheese for my entree.
I was stuffed so I took the Hot Fudge Brownie Sundae back to my room to eat in my HeavenlyBed. Y’all. That bed. I must have it!! I have never slept better!! I went to bed at 830 pm and woke up at 830 am and I’m not even sure I moved at all. It’s that good.
Overall I really enjoyed my very first solo trip and I hope it’s the first of many.
Have you taken a solo trip before??
Have you seen The Lion King??
I have always wanted to see the Lion King, too, and like you – no one will go with me. It comes to Boston occasionally, but I would prefer to see it in NYC.
Ah lion King. I have always wanted to see it. Especially when it was here, but I never had the chance to go. How awesome
I would love to see the Lion King! Looks like so much fun. And the Westin – I love, love, love. That sundae looks mighty tasty, too. Glad you had a great time.
I love the Lion King. I remember seeing it when it first came out and thought what a great way to see this movie come to life.
I loved the Lion King movie and I have watched it more than the kids if the truth be told. I would have loved to go with you on your solo trip if we were neighbors. It looks like a fun time.
Looks like you had an amazing solo trip! I try to take a solo trip at least once per year… and mine is coming up at the end of this month! The Lion King was one of the best Broadway shows I’ve ever seen.
I have never seen the Lion King, it would be fun to watch it. Looks like a wonderful time on a nice hotel with delicious food!
Such a beautiful smile! Your experience looks amazing! I’d love to see the Lion King! How fun and the food looked GOOD!
What a fun trip. I definitely like taking solo trips every now and then. I just like exploring!
I haven’t gone to a broadway show (yet) but I’ve been to many theatres in Stratford Ontario which apparently is a well known theatre. Who knew. Now I live in the USA and I cannot wait to go to one, some day.
This looks like it would of been a nice trip. I love Memphis. I love the Westin and I love the Lion King. Sounds perfect. Oh, and a nice comfy bed. That just makes the trip more worthwhile.
I think it’d be awesome to see the show. I love that you didn’t miss out, woot! I like going places alone sometimes. :)
I think getting out on your own is important to do!! Looks like you had an amazing trip to Memphis!
I don’t do many solo trips. However, when I don’t have the kids, I get my solo time in. I want to go to a comedy show coming soon. But, I am scared to purchase a ticket and not be able to go.
What better way to go then solo! You can do what you want rather than say and what would you like to do instead? I don’t remember ever making a solo trip except I flew to see my mom (when she lived in Vegas) by myself, but while I was there I was with her. I’m glad you trip was fun. I would love to see the Lion King myself too!
I must admit… I love solo trips! Looks like you had plenty of treats to keep you company and had a great time :)
I loved this post and I am so jealous you were able to make it to Memphis to see the Lion King! I too live in Central Arkansas and discussed going with friends but we never actually made the plans to do so. It looks like you had an fun trip and how amazing of you to go alone and not think twice about it! I might have to take a solo trip myself!
So much fun!!
I would have loved to have seen the Lion King, I am glad you enjoyed it so much.
That bed truly does look like Heaven!
And go you, there is no way I could have gone by myself, I am scardy cat ;)
