I don’t know about you but I am in a bit of a skincare slump. I go through periods of taking really good care of my skin and then I miss a night or two and then BAM. I’m in a slump and I haven’t exfoliated or used a night cream in a couple of weeks. Ugh. I hate when that happens.
Fortunately for me I got this fabulous box of goodies that I shared with you from Volition Beauty and testing those products snapped me out of my slump and got me back in the skincare game! Thank you Volition. It also made me realize the importance of regularly exfoliating your skin, I’m talking head to toe here people, and today I thought I would share my thoughts on exfoliating and my favorite exfoliating products!
Benefits of Exfoliating Your Skin
ONE. It rids your skin of dry and dead skin cells. Those skin cells build up over time and if you don’t scrub them off and away they will make your skin seem dull and when they collect in fine lines and wrinkles they can make them look worse!
TWO. It increases circulation and helps you achieve that healthy, glowy look!
THREE. It stimulates lymph nodes and helps promote lymph flow and drainage. Did you know that something as simple as dry brushing your skin before a bath or shower not only exfoliates your skin but it also stimulates your lymph nodes which in turn invigorates the skin? Your lymph nodes are basically small filters that are responsible for filtering out harmful substances from your blood. Sometimes they need a little “pick me up” and exfoliating your body can help with that!
FOUR. It improves the appearance of cellulite. This is not a proven fact but some people feel that exfoliating areas of your body that have cellulite will decrease the appearance of cellulite. How? Some people think that exfoliating helps to soften up hard fat deposits under the skin and distribute them more evenly, therefore reducing the appearance of cellulite. I’m not sure how true that is but it need hurts to try!
FIVE. It’s relaxing. Let’s face it, exfoliating your face and body can be relaxing if you take our time and work slowly. With today’s fast paced life anything that makes me take a minute and focus on myself seems relaxing to me!!
My Favorite Exfoliating Products
Lancôme Visionnaire Crescendo 28 Day Peel | Exfolikate by Kate Somerville
Clinique Exfoliating Scrub | Volition’s Tumeric Brightening Polish
Peter Thomas Roth’s Pumpkin Enzyme Mask
Mask: Peter Thomas Roth’s Pumpkin Enzyme Mask. This mask is perfect for people with a normal/combination skin type. This mask smells like fall and is ideal for those with aging skin, hyperpigmentaion and acne. It is best used 1-2 times a week and only for 3-7 minutes at a time. I featured this mask in my DIY Pumpkin Facial post from last year!
Mask: Exfolikate by Kate Somerville. This mask is perfect for people with a normal/combination skin type. This mask is a little more intense than the Peter Thomas Roth mask and trust me when I say to follow the directions or you will burn your face. True story. This mask also smells like fall, thank you pumpkin enzymes, and is ideal for people with aging skin, crow’s feet and large pores. It is best used 1-2x a week for a maximum of 2 minutes. I also featured this mask in my DIY Pumpkin Facial post from last year! (There is also a version for sensitive skin!!)
Peel: Lancôme Visionnaire Crescendo 28 Day Peel. First of all don’t let the word peel scare you. This is a gentle peel that uses the maximum amount of glycol and salicylic acid that can be sold over the counter. This is a two part peel that works it’s way up to the maximum amount so you don’t do any damage to your skin. It is perfect for all skin types and phase one works to reduce the appearance of pores, improve skin’s texture and radiance while phase two reduces the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and dark spots. It’s good stuff ad worth the price tag, trust me. You can check out my full review on that product here.
Scrub: Clinique Exfoliating Scrub. This scrub is perfect for people with a oily or combination skin type. This scrub is a water based scrub that helps de-flake, refine and soften tiny lines. I have been using this scrub about once a week for years now and it is my old standby. This scrub is ideal for people with super oily skin and large pores.
Scrub: Volition’s Tumeric Brightening Polish. This super exfoliating scrub is good for both your face and your body! This scrub is perfect for all skin types and for both your face and your body. It helps with skin dullness, redness and uneven skin tone. So far I have only used it on my face but I am about to do my elbows and arms because they are feeling a little gross…just stating facts people. You can check out more about this scrub here.
Scrub: Homemade Sugar Scrub. I have a couple of recipes that I use and will link them below but I love making my own scrubs for use all over my body! They are good for all skin types and always smell amazing, plus you make it yourself so you know exactly what goes in it! WIN!! Here are my recipes…homemade sugar scrub, Tangerine Sugar Scrub, Lime Sugar Scrub, Grapefruit Sugar Scrub and Lavender Sugar Scrub!
And those, ladies and gents, are my favorite exfoliating products!!

I always exfoliate my skin before the shower. It really helps get rid of blackheads. For me, it’s part of self-care and my me time.

You sound so much like me and I hate it too when that happens. Clinique Exfoliating Scrub might work for me. My skin is super oily.
Chubskulit Rose says
I seldom exfoliate my skin which I should but you inspire me. I just don’t know which products really works and which are not because my skin is very sensitive.

I find when I forget to exfoliate especially during the summer time, my acne flares up. I love using a simple sugar scrub on my face. It helps a ton.

I definitely need to exfoliate. That Pumpkin Enzyme Mask sounds really good. Can’t wait to give it a try.

I want to use that pumpkin enzyme mask. I don’t exfoliate in a cream, but do use some tools to exfoliate my face. I need to get better at full body exfoliating.
