Homemade Sugar Scrub with Essential Oils

This post contains affiliate links.

I am all about a good sugar scrub! I made my own a couple years ago and have been pretty satisfied with it but then I discovered coconut oil last summer and then essential oils a few months ago and since then I have seriously upped my sugar scrub game. These oils are a total life changer!

I think everyone needs a good scrub in their life. Scrubs are good for exfoliation and exfoliating the skin on a regular basis removes dead skin cells which helps with reversing uneven skin tone and fine lines. A really good sugar scrub will also help to soften the skin and mine are made with all natural products so I don’t feel bad using them so often. I am trying to use more natural products on my skin to make it as healthy as it can be.

Today I thought I would share a few of my favorite sugar scrub recipes with you! All of mine have the same base and then I add in different oils depending on what mood I’m in or what I’m using it for. Let’s get to it!!

First up- this is what I use as my base for all my sugar scrubs. Plain ole white sugar, coconut oil, and fractionated coconut oil.

I just throw a little bit of each into my Kitchenaid mixer and blend until I get the consistency I like. I like mine a little “runny” because I feel like it’s a little less rough on my skin but some people like theirs a little more gritty. It’s all in what you like.

After I get it just the right consistency I put it in little jars and then mix whatever oil I want in with it. You could totally just leave it plain too, the Trader Joe’s coconut oil smells like coconut and I love the smell of anything coconut so that would work but I generally like to spice it up with my oils!

I think I put 15-20 drops of oil into each jar and then I mixed it up really good!!

And that’s pretty much it!! I use mine in the shower before I shave my legs or at night on my face to really wash the day away. You can also use it as an all over body scrub before a spray tan!

So far my favorite scrub has been the Tangerine Scrub! Tangerine oil calms me down and helps with my stress. It also smells really good!! HA! Some citrus oils can cause photosensitivity so I usually use this one before bed.

I also made a Lime Scrub which smells like summer time when mixed with the coconut oil from Trader Joes!! YUMMY!! Lime essential oil is very refreshing and stimulating. It really wakes me up and love to use it in my morning shower.

Grapefruit Scrub smells delicious!! I almost want to eat it…LOL!! Grapefruit essential oil really helps me most at the end of a long work day when I am tired and sore. It really helps my muscle fatigue and I have also used it on those irritating bug bites! I really love this scrub as an all-over body scrub. It’s really multifunctional.

And a last but certainly not least I made a Lavender Scrub!! Lavender is so so so good!! It really helps relieve stress and makes me sleepy. I not only use this as a scrub but I will put in my bath water so I can get the aromatherapy benefits as well. Just putting an essential oil in your bath water is good, but the oil floats on top of the water and you really want it down in the water with you so you need something to carry it on. You can mix your oil with epsom salt or mix it up like a sugar scrub and then put a spoonful in the tub! So so so good!!

I love my sutra scrubs and I can’t wait to make more with my other oils!!

Do you make your own sugar scrub??
Do you use essential oils??

I’ve been wanting to make my own sugar scrubs! I want to go to the bulk food store to get a big huge thing of sugar, but I don’t know when that will be! Thanks for sharing yours :)

This does sound really nice. I haven’t used a sugar scrub in a really long time. I could probably use one.

Essential oils have so many great uses. This is an awesome idea and I have not yet made any homemade sugar scrubs yet. I would love to try the tangerine sugar scrub for sure. Thanks for sharing.

I loved making my own sugar scrubs. I usually use brown sugar with mines but it’s so much more affordable than buying that stuff from a store. I will add essential oils the next time I make a batch.

I love my essential oils. I have been using them for about 20 years now and get so tickled to see them mainstream. It’s awesome that so many people are learning about their benefits.

I love a good scrub and I’ve spent so much on the ones you can buy from the store and never knew how easy and cheap it was to make my own! I think this would be such an adorable gift to give!

Never heard of a sugar scrub before, very interesting. My wife is already pretty sweet though, any more and she’ll melt in the rain.
