Happy Wednesday! Guess who’s back with another book post?! This girl!! I am going to get caught up soon, I promise!! And also, if you have any book recommendations, I am always on the lookout for a new book to read so leave them for me in the comments!!
As I’m sure you know by now, one of my New Year’s Resolutions this year is to read 120 books. So far this year (including this month) I have read 101 books! I wonder how many books I will get to this year since I topped out last year at 120….hmmmm, only time will tell.
Anyway, let’s get to the books!!
ONE. Natalie Tan’s Book of Luck and Fortune by Roselle Lim. This is book about the relationship between mothers and daughters…the good, the bad and the ugly. It also explores different cultures, love, the past and the future. It is a great story about a woman who finds herself in the midst of a tragedy and really pulls herself up and starts her life over. Needless to say, I loved this book and would highly recommend it!
Vivid and lyrical with a touch of magic. Natalie Tan’s Book of Luck and Fortune explores culture, community, and the complex love between mothers and daughters, leaving your heart full…and your belly hungry. I absolutely loved it. Helen Hoang, author of The Kiss Quotient
TWO. The Secret to Hummingbird Cake by Celeste Fletcher McHale. If you need a good cry, this is the book for you! I’m not saying that in a sad way but in a good for your soul way. This book explores the relationship between southern women and their lifelong friendships. It is about the recipe to Hummingbird Cake and that every recipe needs a little love to help it be a great one. It’s about loss, love, friendship, growing up in a small town and everything in between. If you love southern chick lit then you will love this book as much as I do!
With wit and verve, Fletcher McHale portrays the joys and aches of modern Southern womanhood. […] The Secret to Hummingbird Cake celebrates strong women and stronger ties. Its humor, poignancy, and a clash of sass will touch the heart. -CBA Reviews
THREE. These Witches Don’t Burn by Isabel Sterling. And now we ware on to my YA book of the month, LOL! This book is about two real live witches, their friends and dark magic. It’s really good and has a different feel than most YA books about witches. I can’t wait to read more from this author!
Infused with page-turning suspense, bittersweet romance, shocking twists, and tragic turns, Sterling has written a standout debut. -Dana Mele, author of People Like Us
FOUR. The Peacock Emporium by Jojo Moyes. Oh Jojo Moyes…you slay me! Jojo Moyes is one of my favorite authors as of late and all of her books are amazing! This one is about a woman who returns to her home town to open a coffee bar and shop called The Peacock Emporium. She also learns more about her mysterious mother who passed away when she was a baby and upon discovering her mother’s secrets, finds herself along the way. This is a great read and I would recommend it to anyone who loves chick lit! I think I have a thing for chick lit this month…LOL!
FIVE. Pieces of Her by Karen Slaughter. Now on to my psychological thriller of the month…HA! This book is actually being made into a show or movie for Netflix and I can see why, it’s SO GOOD! This book is about the relationship between mothers and daughters and the lengths they will go through to protect one another. It’s about a daughter on the run who discovers pieces of her Mother’s past along the way. It is seriously one of those books that keeps you on the edge of you seat and makes you read it all in one sitting. Page turner for sure!
SIX – EIGHT. Morganville Vampires Series by Rachel Caine {Bite Club, Last Breath, Black Dawn}. And of course more Morganville Vampire books!! This series is such a great, quick read and keeps you interested!!
And that’s it folks! All of the books I read in the month of August!! You can also check out all of the books I read in January, February, March, April, May, June, and July. And if we have the same taste in books you can check out my favorite chick lit authors here!
