I love writing my monthly “what I’m reading posts” and I’ve gotten a lot of questions about them. How I read so much, what kinds of books are my favorite, who my favorite authors are, etc. I could honestly talk about reading and books all day long but today I thought I would answer at least one of those questions for you and tell you all about my favorite chick lit authors.
To answer the first question quickly, I read so many books in a month because I listen to a lot of audiobooks. I check them out through my local library’s e-library and download them to an app on my phone and listen to them when I’m getting ready to go somewhere, when I’m cleaning the house and when I’m driving. I read a lot of books that way.
And as for what kinds of books I like to read it varies. I love everything from murder mysteries to chick lit to young adult. Really just anything with a good story line!
And that leaves me with today’s topic…my favorite chick lit authors! I was actually just going to write a post about my favorite authors in general but the list got too long. So I am breaking the posts up by genres and today is all about chick lit!
I feel like this could be a really long post so hopefully I can keep it on the shorter side. Also- these authors are in NO PARTICULAR ORDER! Here we go…
ONE. Candace Bushnell. If you haven’t read the original Sex and the City book then you HAVE to!! It, and all of her other books, is seriously funny! Candace Bushnell actually has a new book coming out this August titled “Is There Still Sex in the City?” and I am DYING. Going to preorder now…
TWO. Jennifer Wiener. I started reading Jennifer Weiner books way back when “In Her Shoes” came out in theaters and have since read (and own) them all. She is so relatable and her characters just have me repeating “this is so ME!!!” over and over again.
THREE. Jodi Picoult. I have loved Jodi Picoult since way back when! I remember reading My Sister’s Keeper on the beach over spring break when I was in Respiratory Therapy School and I have been obsessed ever since. JP picks a controversial topic, puts her own spin on it and really makes you think about both sides. The books are better than the movies (duh) and if you watched My Sister’s Keeper in theaters I highly suggest you read the book because it had a completely different ending. There is always a twist at the end that you don’t see coming!
FOUR. Mary Kay Andrews. If you love southern chick lit then you have to read Mary Kay Andrews! All of her books give me hope and all the happy feels. They also make me want to move to the Georgia coast!! All of her books are amazing but one of my faves is Ladies Night!
FIVE. Emily Giffin. I am almost embarrassed to tell you that until recently I thought her last name was Griffin. Sigh. I have read (and own) every book EG has written but I think my favorite will always be Something Borrowed. The movie was good but like I said earlier, the book was so much better!!
SIX. Lauren Weisberger. I feel like the whole world, or anyone who reads chick lit, screamed hallelujah last summer when Lauren Weisberger came out with the third installment of The Devil Wears Prada series last summer. The first book, and the movie, were phenomenal and the second book which followed Andi’s post-Miranda story was really good but that third book was so worth the wait! I have read her other books and they are just as good as these three!!
SEVEN. Kristin Hannah. Kristin Hannah has written so many of my favorite books including the one pictured here, Firefly Lane. But I think my absolute favorite book of hers and the book I declared my “book of the year” in 2015 is The Nightingale. It is about WWII and will bring you to tears, in a good way, and I heard it may be made into a movie?? Fingers are crossed!!
EIGHT. Denise Hildreth Jones. I fell in love with Denise Hildreth Jones books a few years ago when I read the Savannah from Savannah series and have since read every fiction book she’s written. Her books are christian chick lit and seriously give me all the feels!
NINE. Sara Gruen. I remember only wanting to read Water for Elephants because the movie had Robert Pattinson and it came out right in the midst of all of the Twilight craze and I was obsessed with him…HA! I committed a cardinal sin (in my book) and I saw the movie before I read the book but then I felt compelled to read it because of that and I fell in love with Sara Gruen’s storytelling skills! I have since read her other books and they are amazing!!
TEN. Jojo Moyes. I think all the readers fell in love with Jojo Moyes’ books after reading and watching Me Before You. Talk about a tear jerker!! I have since read the other two books in that series and a few of her other books and I have loved them all!! So if you loved Me Before You then you need to check out her other books as well!!
BONUS. Nicholas Sparks. He’s not a chick but I’m still including him on my chick lit list…I fell in love with his books a few years ago when I found the whole collection for sale for dirt cheap in a used book store. I bought them all, read them and have been hooked ever since. His books are a little like Jodi Picoult’s in that there is always a twist at the end and trust me when I say the books are so much better than the movie!! Also- he makes me want to pack up everything I own and move to a small coastal town in North Carolina and ride to work on a bike. Just saying…
And a few other honorable mentions include…Jane Green (you HAVE to read Jemima J!!!!!), Elin Hilderbrand, Kevin Kwan, Mary Alice Monroe, Sophie Kinsella, Liane Moriarty, Colleen Hover and more!
And that, ladies and gents, is all of my favorite chick lit authors!! There are probably more but that’s all I can think of right now. Let me know your favorite author, of any genre, in the comments below!!
Do you like Chick Lit??

I’m sure I’ve read all of Mary Kay Andrews books and of course, Nicholas Sparks. I’m also an avid reader and I see several books I want to read. When a book is made into a movie, I always like the book better.

I like Jodi Picoult’s books. My Sister’s Keeper is such a good read. The difficult choices a family must make when a child is diagnosed with a serious disease are explored with pathos and understanding.

Exactly!! All of her books are like that, they really make you think!!

I never would have guessed that you read so many because of audiobooks. This is something I must try. I do 2-hour daily commute and listen to podcasts mostly. I will check out some audio books now

Yep!! I tried podcasts but couldn’t get into them the way I do with audiobooks!!

I’ve never thought about listening audio books. It’s such a great idea, especially when you don’t have much time, but love to read.

I’ve never read any of these books but I have seen the movies The Devil wears Prada and The Notebook. I don’t think I have a fave author but I like Nicholas Sparks.
Ricci says
If you’re a reader then you should read the books too! They have so many more details!
Marysa says
I’ve read a bunch of those. Water for Elephants is a favorite of mine! I really like Kristin Hannah and Jodi Picoult, although I will say that there is a lot of drama in those books and I have to space them out!
Ricci says
Water for Elephants was sooo good!! I haven’t read it in forever and may need to re-read it soon!
