The Best Anti-Dandruff Products for Every Type of Hair

This post contains affiliate links.

The holiday season is officially in full swing with Christmas next week and New Year’s Eve the week after that. How are we already in the last couple of weeks of 2018?? This year has literally flown by. I feel like I say that a lot but you know it’s true!

With all of the holidays comes holiday parties and family get-togethers and I don’t know about you but I have enough on my hands trying to worry about getting to the right place at the right time and with the right gifts and food to worry about anything else, much less dandruff. Yes, I said dandruff. YUCK! Unfortunately this time of year is also dandruff season and so today I am sharing my top five anti-dandruff products with y’all so we have one less thing to worry about…because who has time for dandruff?? Not this girl!!

The first thing you need to do is figure out what kind of dandruff you have because unfortunately not all dandruff is the same. There is your typical dry-scalp dandruff and then there is oily dandruff which is caused excess sebum production on your scalp. The biggest difference in the two is that dry-scalp dandruff causes those irritating white flakes and oily dandruff causes a thicker, stickier, oilier flakes that don’t really flake off but instead accumulate on top of each other causing dry patches on your scalp.

Fortunately for you the products that I am sharing today can be used for both kinds of dandruff (with some working better for one type or the other) and I will specify in the descriptions below!

1 | 2 | 3| 4 | 5

ONE. Not Your Mother’s Activated Charcoal and Purple Moonstone Scalp Scrub. Long name, fantastic product! I recently started using this scalp scrub to get rid of product buildup on my scalp (I LOVE to use dry shampoos and texture sprays but they do leave a buildup on my scalp that regular shampoo just wasn’t getting rid of) and can tell a big difference in how “clean” my scalp feels. I also love how budget friendly this product is! I would recommend this for both dry and oily dandruff.

TWO. Heeta Hair Scalp Massager. If you don’t use a scalp scrub or you do and you want to take it up a notch try using a scalp massager! I started using this with my regular shampoo and holy moly this this really cleans!! The bristles are made of silicone so they don’t irritate the scalp but they really do work to massage the scalp and really get in there and get it clean! You can also use this on a dry scalp before you wash! I would recommend this for both dry and oily dandruff.

THREE. Kiehl’s Magic Elixir Hair Restructuring Concentrate. I have used this product for a couple of years now (I still have the first bottle I ever purchased, a little bit goes a long way!) on my scalp when I notice it getting dry or when I first start to notice dandruff and this usually nips it in the bud. You just take a small amount, slather it all over your scalp. leave it for 20-ish minutes and then hop in the shower and wash it out. I would recommend this for dry dandruff.

FOUR. Neutrogena T/SAL Therapeutic Shampoo with Salicylic Acid. This is one the most tried and true anti-dandruff shampoos out there and has a TON of amazing reviews. When my dandruff gets super bad and my treatments aren’t working I break out this bad boy and it works!! I would recommend this for both dry and oily dandruff.

FIVE. Paul Mitchell Tea Tree Special Shampoo. This is a newer-to-me product but I can say that I really like it! I am normally not a fan of anything with tea tree oil in it (I think it smells like dirt, HA) but this stuff is super soothing for an irritated, itchy scalp! I don’t know that it works that well for someone with a TON of dandruff but it is a nice alternative to the heavily medicated, stinky anti-dandruff shampoos. I would recommend this for dry dandruff.

And there you have it, my top five anti-dandruff products!! All of these products are also safe to use on color-treated hair, I forgot to mention that above…oops!

My dad has had dandruff on and off for years (as long as I can remember). I will have to let him know about these products.

Anything with tree tee oil in it works really well if you really do have dandruff. Most people don’t really have true dandruff. Like the products you have chosen.

I’ve used that tea tree shampoo before and I really love the way it tingles. I don’t have dandruff but I do have a dry scalp so I need to grab some more of that shampoo.

I haven’t thought enough about my scalp and as I get older I think it needs and deserves more attention. I think step one will be getting the Heeta Hair Scalp Massager! Thank you!

I will try some of these out for sure. I get dandruff at times and I hate it. My daughter does as well, so she’ll be happy with these.

I love the idea of the scalp massager. My eldest daughter has extremely thick hair, I think this would be perfect for her.

The first time I ever used Tea Tree shampoo was in a boutique hotel in Chicago! I have never used anything but since! Haven’t tried that brand but I’ll take a look!
