It’s here! It’s here!! My very first Disney World recap blog post (of Animal Kingdom) is finally here and I can’t wait to share the entire trip with y’all!
It’s no secret that I’ve been slacking in the blog department but truth be told I haven’t felt very inspired. I don’t know what my deal is but I can say that I am excited to share all, ok MOST, of my Disney photos with y’all and tell you all about my very first trip to Disney World.
Yes, I am 36 years old and have never been to Disney before now. How is that even possible for such Disney loving person like myself, I don’t even know. I guess I was never given the opportunity to go before now and got a really good deal on this trip, it was super cheap, and I couldn’t pass it up so I went. And I am so damn glad I did!!! So let’s recap this trip, shall we?
On my first full day at Disney World, I went to Animal Kingdom!
I can’t even tell you how magical it was to step through the gates and see the Tree of Life. This photo does it absolutely zero justice, it is truly magical to look at up close and see all of the different animals carved into it! I was completely and totally mesmerized.
After gawking at the tree I hit up my first ride, Expedition Everest! It was super fun, had a little scare element to it and I LOVED IT!!
Next we hit up the Dinosaur Ride. It is based on the Disney movie, Dinosaur, which I have actually never seen. It was released in 2000 and that was around the time I was graduating from high school and wasn’t really into Disney/kid stuff so that’s my excuse. However, since getting back from Disney World my list of obscure Disney movies to see has grown and most definitely includes this one!
The next ride I took pics of was Pandora’s Flight of Avatar. I am almost embarrassed to tell you that this is another movie I haven’t seen yet but it’s on my list too. The ride was one of my top two favorite rides of the entire trip and it was worth the 2.5 hour wait. We weren’t able to get a Fast Pass for this ride but it was worth every minute of waiting!!
One of our last rides of the day was the Kilimanjaro Safari. For this ride you literally get on a safari truck and drive around looking at real life animals. It was soooo cool to see these animals just roaming around doing their thing and we got to see so many different animals! The ones I have here for you are the baby rhino, mama giraffe, baby giraffe, elephant and a pack of larger rhinos.
And then, last but not least, I got to meet Safari Mickey and Minnie! I really didn’t want to post this pic to my blog or social media because it’s at the end of the day, I am gross and sweaty, I have no makeup on, and you can see every spider vein and varicose vein on my legs. No, that’s not cellulite, it’s all veins. But you know what? That’s what I look like and I’m proud of this body of mine.
This body of mine is STRONG and walked 22,000+ steps a day at Disney and could have done more! This body has lost almost 50lbs and has somehow kept it off (yes, I’m working on losing more but that’s a story for another day). This body has survived 36 years of everything I have put it through…the good, the bad, and the ugly. This body is mine and it isn’t going anywhere so I’m going to wear the shorts, wear the swimsuit and I’m not going to care what other people think about it.
Stepping off my soapbox now…
I think this is where I will stop now because I don’t want to overwhelm you with photos! I LOVED every minute of Animal Kingdom and can’t wait to share the rest of my very first Disney World trip with y’all!!

I have been to Animal Kingdom last year when my husband turned 60. Yep, that is where he wanted to celebrate his 60th birthday! We had avoided it for years (didn’t sound interesting at the time) but Avatar is one of my favorite movies, so when they added that attraction, I wanted to go. Then I was so surprised at how awesome it was. Believe it or not, I didn’t do the safari (crazy, right?) but when we go back, it is going to be my #1 thing to do. Loved your animal photos!

YAY! I visited Disney World for the first time seven years ago. It was the best experience of my life. I really could have stayed there all day.

How fun! I have never been to Disney World but I recognize the Icon tree. Once day my family and I will make it there. But we have been to Disney Land a few times. We went twice in one year being Arizonans, which was a big accomplishment for us.

Would you believe we stayed at Animal Kingdom Lodge a few years ago when we visited but skipped Animal Kingdom! Our guide said we could wait till the boys were a bit older. You have my dying to get back. We love animals!
