My Must Have Hair Products for Strong, Healthy Hair

If you know me at all then you know I could talk about hair products all day long. Growing up I had awful hair (see here for proof!)…those were the days before anyone had access to hair straighteners and I swear my Mom had me try every mousse and gel and cream to get my hair to not be a giant frizz ball. So to say that I have tried my share of hair products would be an understatement, I have pretty much tried it all!

And after literally trying it all (and owning it all) I have narrowed down the products I use daily (I a less is more kind of girl when it comes to products I use on my hair and face, the least amount of product I can use the better!) to those absolutely essential for strong, healthy hair and have come up with these as my absolute favorites…

ONE and TWO. Shampoo and Conditioner. Choosing the right shampoo and conditioner for your hair type is the first step to having strong, healthy hair and let’s face it ladies, hair aisles are intimidating with their rows upon rows of bottles and tubs of shampoo and conditioner for any and every type of hair. Am I right?? I have a few favorites but I always find myself mixing and matching to get all of the things I want out of my products. For example, I usually buy a volumizing shampoo that also has clarifying properties in it and then I purchase a conditioner that is for color-treated hair that is also super moisturizing. Yes, that system works but wouldn’t it be easier to just check a few boxes of all the properties you want in your shampoo and conditioner and have it made specifically for your hair?

That’s exactly what the makers of Formulate Personal Care Products thought when they created their personalized shampoo and conditioner!

I talked a bit about the shampoo and conditioner I received from Formulate on my Instagram but here’s the gist- you go to their website, fill out a questionnaire about your hair and the goals you have for it and they create a shampoo and conditioner specifically for your hair. You even get to pick the scent! How awesome is that??

I have been using my personalized shampoo and conditioner for a few weeks now and I am loving it! My hair feels softer and more manageable right out of the shower and I’m not using nearly as much product on it after I wash it either. Score!!

THREE. Heat Protection/Blow Out Spray. I use a lot of heat on my hair, blame it on my terrible hair days but when I wash my hair (2-3x a week) I am also going to blow dry it and then either straighten or curl it. And then on the days I don’t wash it I am usually touching up my hair with either my straightener or curling iron. So I am using heat on my hair pretty much everyday so for me heat protection is a MUST HAVE.

I have talked about my love for OGX’s Silk Blowout Spray a lot in the past and today is no exception. I love that it combines a blowout spray designed to cut down on time spent with a hairdryer and heat protection all in one. I love a multipurpose product because that means I’m using less products! Woohoo! On days I don’t use the OGX spray I use Bumble and Bumble’s Hairdresser’s Invisible Oil Primer Spray. It’s pretty similar to the OGX spray except it is a lot more moisturizing and doesn’t;t cut down on dry time. It’s also about triple the cost of the OGX so it really depends on what kind of mood I’m in…LOL!!

FOUR. Hairspray. I know some people are thinking WHY are you using hairspray to get strong/healthy hair?? Well if I want my style to stay in place and to not mess with my hair all day then hairspray is a MUST for me! LOL!

The Kristin Ess Beach Wave Spray is a new find for me. I grabbed it at Target a while ago when I was looking for a flexible hold hairspray and while that’s not exactly when this is, it works on keeping my waves in place and still lets them move which is all I wanted in the first place. The DryBar Sheriff Maximum Hold Hairspray is a fave from way back and the smell always reminds me of fall and the first time I purchased it, HA! Plus it holds my hair in place like a DREAM.
