If you follow me on Instagram or follow my blog’s Facebook page then you may already know that last Thursday I road tripped it to Memphis with my friend Kassie and we went to the Memphis Zoo and Aquarium!!
As many times as I have been to Memphis over the years I have never been to the zoo!! How crazy is that?? I love zoos!! And I love Memphis! But seriously though, Memphis is an amazing city to visit.
Memphis is home to some of the best food you will ever eat and there is soooo much to see and do there. I actually go there quite a lot to see shows, you can see some of those here. Memphis is also home to Elvis Presley’s Graceland (remember when I went there foe my birthday a few years ago?? HA)!! And the best part? It’s only a couple of hours from my house!
Back to the zoo…I was contacted by the wonderful people at the zoo to see if I wanted to come and check it out and see what all they have to offer and of course I accepted that invitation!! Who turns down a free trip to the zoo?? Not this girl!!!
The first thing you should know about the Memphis Zoo and Aquarium is that it is HUGE. It puts our zoo here in Little Rock to shame. Don’t get me wrong, I love the LR zoo but this one just has so much more to see and do!!
In addition to all of their regular exhibits and things to do this summer the Memphis Zoo and Aquarium partnered with Ripley’s Believe it or Not and has awesome exhibits to go through and tons of sculptures to see all throughout the zoo! It was so neat to see all of the weird and unique things scattered around everywhere. They had a real vampire killing kit on display as well as the world’s smallest car, paintings made from BBQ sauce, shrunken heads, a King Kong made of car tires and so much more!! Here just a few of the things on display…
…I mean y’all. That King Kong is MASSIVE!!! I am 5’9″ and it towered over me!! It was so cool!!!
Having never been to the Memphis Zoo I have to say that I was thoroughly impressed with all of the ways they had to keep kids (and adults) from not burning up while being out in the sun all day. There were mist fans everywhere, stands to buy water and cold treats all throughout the zoo and splash pads and pools everywhere! That may just be the best idea ever. Kids were having so much fun and I loved dipping my feet in to cool off…LOL!!
Now on to the good stuff…the animals! I love how the zoo was divided into different sections featuring all of the different animals. You really felt like you were in China or India or Africa or wherever the animal’s natural habitat was. I saw so many more animals than I though possible and there were so many I didn’t even get pics of! So without further ado and in no certain order, here are some of my favorite animals (picture overload!!)…
There are also a lot of different interactive things you can do to get up close and personal with the animals. For instance we got to feed and pet stingrays in Stingray Bay!!
We also got to feed giraffes!! Have you ever been up close and personal with a giraffe?? They are HUGE. I’m talking the biggest giraffe’s head was about as tall as me!! A little bit intimidating, a whole lotta FUN!
And perhaps my most favorite thing that we did all day was ride camels. You read that right, I got to ride a camel!! I have to admit that I was a little bit extremely nervous, HA! But Picasso (the camel) was super sweet and didn’t even try to buck me off or run away with me. Not that those thoughts went through my head or anything…LOL!!
I mean…day = MADE!! That was so COOL!! But not as cool as this sweet treat…
Bubble Gum Snow Cones? Yes please!! It was so GOOD!!
We were at the zoo from 11:30am until around 5pm and we saw pretty much everything. So of you are planning on going then plan on spending a whole day there for sure!! Thank you Memphis Zoo and Aquarium for inviting me out and for hosting Kassie and I! We had so much (sweaty) FUN!!!
And one more thing…if you want to go to the zoo while the Ripley’s event is going on you have from now until July 8!!
Have you been to the Memphis Zoo and Aquarium??

I love going to the zoo. We had season passes to two of the local zoos here when my kids were little. They’ve outgrown the zoo, so I haven’t been back in about 5 years. I miss it, though.

We always love going to zoos and aquariums. These look like great ones. We have a good zoo nearby, it’s just too hot to go to at the moment. But there are camel rides!

Pandas and giraffes are so fun to see! We live near the National Zoo and love that so we would love this one too-looks great and if we go to Memphis, we will visit this place for sure.

It’s a lovely place, really. I love aquariums and zoos because the kids learn so much from going there and they get to have a lot of fun too. It’s so nice that the place is prepared for the summer heat! That’s really important.

This looks like so much fun! Our zoo took out camel riding years ago, I did it as a kid! I was just at Ripley’s in Orlando and got a photo of the tire godzilla too!! It is HUGE!!!!

It’s nice that there’s a place the kids can soak up too. This reminds me of the Pittsburgh Zoo and Aquarium.

The layout and scenery are so nice at this zoo. I will try to check it out if we are ever in that area.
