Happy Hump Day!! I feel like I have seen a lot of new faces around here lately and so I felt like it was time to do another “about me” type of post! I like to do these types of posts every now and then just because I think it’s a fun way to get to know the “blogger behind the blog”. So here we go!!
ONE. My first name is Ricci (pronounced like Ricky) and my Dad got to name me because he won a bet against my Mom. My Mom hated the name Ricci and was going to call me Alex, short for Alexis (my middle name) but got mad when all the nurses at the hospital called me baby Reese. She kept correcting them and tell them it was pronounced like Ricky and so it stuck and I am now and forever more Ricci and not Alex.
Either way I would have had a boy’s name and boy names for girls weren’t so popular in the early 80’s. It made for a lot of awkward situations. Fun fact- the first time I went to sleep away camp I got assigned a spot in the boys cabin because the camp thought I was a boy solely based on my name. I also rocked a bowl cut for a few years and that didn’t help with the whole boy’s name thing…sigh.
TWO. I have a slight obsession with the Royal Family. I don’t post about them as much as I used to but I would kill to have half of the Duchess of Cambridge’s style and London is the #1 destination on my International Travel Bucket List. I think George and Charlotte are adorable, Prince Harry is HOT (and could do better than Meghan Markle??) and Queen Elizabeth will live forever.
THREE. My “real” job is as a Registered Respiratory Therapist in a NICU (Neonatal Intensive Car Unit) and I freaking love it. I have been a RRT for almost 10 years now and it’s crazy how fast that time has flown by. Some days I feel like a new grad and some days I feel like I have been here forever. I have had the same job since I graduated from school and am slowly realizing that I’m one of the “old people” at work and I don’t mind that feeling one bit. HA!
FOUR. I am a little bit musical obsessed and post about the shows I go to frequently on this blog. The most recent show I saw was The Little Mermaid at The Orpheum Theater in Memphis Tennessee and the next show I will see is The King and I in Memphis. I live in central Arkansas but Memphis just gets better shows than we do. Step it up Little Rock, that 2 hour drive is getting old fast.
FIVE. I am a single and have been for years after a particularly bad breakup and am completely happy with my life. There are some times that having a guy around would be so helpful (holidays, weddings, trash day, etc) but I am fine on my own. When most people hear that I am a single 34 year old they give me “the look”. You know the one, that poor pitiful you look and then they start thinking of guys to hook you up with. Not cool people! When I’m good and ready I’m sure it will happen and if not then I’m happy right where I am…just me and my dog.
SIX. I have a dog. My Sophie girl is a tiny little six year old malti-poo and doesn’t frequent this blog or my Instagram very often because she hates getting her picture taken. HA! These days you can usually find her sleeping in the middle of my bed under the covers or on the couch under a blanket. She loves her “babies” (stuffed animals with squeakers, the small Boots and Barkley ones from Target are her FAVE) and chew sticks and goes outside only so she can get a treat once she’s back inside. She’s been known to fake a pee just to get a treat. That girl…
She’s about as passive aggressive as her Mom and frequently “punishes” me by not sleeping in the bed with me. Instead she sleeps under the bed and leaves me alone all by myself. That’s my girl…HA!
SEVEN. I recently discovered I love to wear lipstick and can’t go without it now. For years I tried to hide my lips by only wearing lip balm because I was always made fun of how big they were when I was a kid. I got called all kinds of names and even used to suck them in so they wouldn’t look so big. And to think, now those same people who made fun of me are all trying lip fillers and plumping lip glosses. Jokes on them I guess? #karma
EIGHT. I am pretty OCD about some things and I think streaming television was invented for people like me. I like to watch a show from start to finish and Netflix is my JAM right now. I can’t wait to see season two of Stranger Things and the Gilmore Girls Revival made me believe in the power of television all over again. Take me back to Stars Hollow!!
NINE. A few years ago I went back to school and got a second degree, this one in E-Commerce. This blog inspired me to learn more about the back end of the online world and I love marketing so that degree choice was perfect for me. I am now proud to say that I can fix most WordPress problems that come my way and it’s kind of empowering to know what in the world is going on in the backend of my website. I could code all day, with the right playlist of course. HA! I thought I might eventually switch careers but I am still obsessed with my NICU babies and hospital insurance is kind of bomb so I don’t think I will be giving my RRT job up any time soon. It’s always good to have a backup plan though!
TEN. I started this blog almost seven years ago right before I had a breast reduction. I went from a DDD to a C and couldn’t be happier with my choice. If you are in central Arkansas and need a referral to an amazing plastic surgeon email me (several friends have also used my doc and are in love with their results)! And if you are thinking about getting a reduction and have any questions about it feel free to ask, I am an open book!
If you have any questions about anything please feel free to ask!!
What is one random thing most people may not know about you??

This is so fun! I love posts like this that let me get to know the blogger behind the posts. I LOVE lipstick, too! I never wore it before, either.

I love these articles and ironically have a similar one on my blog today!
I am so glad you went for a breast reduction!
Having really large breasts can kill our backs and posture!
Sophie is ADORABLE give her some snuggles and an extra treat for me today, please.
I too LOVE musicals!
I myself was almost a Tonya. While my name is odd (Joely) I do believe I prefer it over Tonya.
It is funny how you ended up with your name though – your dad winning a bet LOL! I love your name!
It is hard growing up with an unusual name though.
It was nice to learn more about you!!

Omg, I love that bowl cut! You should definitely watch Stranger Things. It was great! I watched it in two days. :)

I’m so guilty, I totally thought Ricci was Reese. My bad! I had no idea one could get a degree in E-commerce. I might to look into one of these, I would enjoy the work.

I love this post! So cool that you work in NICU! I am obsessed with Stranger Things (I’ve watched it 3 times so far…..might have to go for 4) and Gilmore Girls LOVE!!!

First and foremost, I feel blessed. My son’s wife thought enough of me to name their daughter after me. Luckily, Joey is gender neutral.
Rikki you look great, I am amazed because you do more then 70% of society.
You are an inspiration to many.

I loved reading this to get to know you (the person behind this awesome blog!) You seem like a positive happy person that would be good to have around, keep on keeping on… love your work!

Seeing your name have a funny back story like that is nice since you can look back in your life and reminisce about it. Post like this is great since you get to know the person behind the blog. :)

That is awesome that you get to help those tiny babies. When my twin sisters were born and were in the NICU, I wanted to be a nurse. I started nursing school and well I ended up swapping degree choices after I found a love for computers. I got my AA degree and then in 07 I got my Bachelors. Due to unforeseen circumstances, I haven’t been able to utilize my degree. I also never dreamed of being a writer but it was a leap of faith that I took to keep me from going insane.

My wife had the same reduction done, her quality of life was vastly improved by it. Being “endowed” is not all it’s cracked up to be.

I used to wear lip balm only too. Now I can’t leave the house without wearing lipstick. :) So good to know these things about you, Ricky! ;)

I’m with you on the whole Netflix thing. I can sit and binge watch a who series in one go – I now hate having to wait for the next episodes on normal TV!
