I feel like it’s been forever since I did a Friday Five or a Life Lately blog post so I through that today I would roll the two blog posts into one! Fun, right??
If you are new to these parts then you should know that I reserve Fridays to talk about five random things. Actually the lists aren’t always random but here lately they have been and today is no exception. So here we go with today’s random five things…
ONE. For those who don’t already know I am a Respiratory Therapist. I feel like I have mentioned that on here a few times but not lately. OOPS! Anyway, I have been on day shift for the past six years and have recently switched back to nights. Please believe me when I say that I wouldn’t make the switch back just for fun, I switched back to be a core therapist in the NICU. I LOVE working with the preemies and I love knowing that when I go to work that’a who I get to work with every night. I am still adjusting to sleeping during the day and luckily I have a dog who will sleep all the time so that helps!
Also- my medical peeps out there, what are your favorite scrubs to wear?? I am obsessed with MedCouture and have been wearing them for years but am looking at a couple other brands right now because I need some new scrubs. I have to wear a jade green so that color is kind of hard to find but Med Couture’s Spearmint is perfect!!
TWO. Now that I have switched from days to nights I have a few more days off in a row and that has been amazing because that means I get to see my family more!! One of my nieces, MJ, came to stay with me a few weekends ago and we lived it up! We went to my niece Haileigh’s soccer game, the Little Rock Zoo and watched lots of Minions!! She was soooo much fun to have over!!
I also got to go see my niece, Paycen, play a t-ball game the other night! Y’all. I LOVE watching little kids play t-ball. They have no idea what they are doing and trying to get them all in the dugout at the same time is like herding cats! HA!
THREE. Influenster sent me this Lancôme Visionnaire Crescendo™ 28 Day Dual Phase Peel. I was a little hesitant to try it but once I did I have become obsessed!! I am about to finish phase 1 and then I get to move to phase two. I will write a whole blog post on it but just know that my face already feels smoother!!
FOUR. No7 also sent me a pretty sweet PR package with all of these goodies in it! These items are to help launch their Made to Match Skin Tone Analysis App, which I used and found that all of the products sent to me match with my skin tone perfectly!! Way to go No7!!!
FIVE. I wrote an article for OnlyInArk about one of my absolute favorite cupcake shops, Fat Bottomed Girls Cupcake Shoppe in Hot Springs AR. These cupcakes are seriously to die for and the shop itself is super cute! Check it out if you have a moment…
I guess that’s a wrap on my Friday Five and Life lately for this week. I hope you all have a fabulous weekend!!!

Wow what a fantastic 5! I would love to visit that cupcake shop! Would love to have that PR package from No7 and love fun scrubs! Not that I wear them but always enjoy when my nurses or doctors have nice scrubs on! Glad you are enjoying night shift! My husband does split shifts 2 weeks days 2 weeks nights. It can be difficult but for the most part it is the best of both worlds!

I’m glad to know that you are Respiratory Therapist that is a unique job! I also love your Lancome, I would love to try it too.
Cacinda says
Wow thank you for all you do working in the NICU! I can’t imagine how hard it would be to switch to working evenings!
Ricci says
It actually hasn’t been a bad transition! It’s the getting used to sleeping during the day that’s hard right now…LOL!!

I too wear scrubs at work. I work in a freestanding ER, the new thing. We don’t have a RT. Unfortunately, I get to do that too. As a male, most scrub companies don’t offer much geared for men. I have found I like Cherokee Scrubs, same style for years. I can only wear black as policy states. I like Cherokee as they have a style with lots of pockets, and I am sure you know how important that is carrying all the stuff I do. I have to do all my own EKG’s, ABG’s, Breathing Tx’s, and set up my own vent.
I used to work nights. It was hard to leave the differential pay about 5 years ago. I managed to adjust. Planning a move before long and will probably have to go back to nights for a while, I don’t mind, just lose days transitioning back and forth on days off. When that time comes, I think I may start a blog myself.
As for makeup, I will leave that to you. Whatever your doing seems to be fantastic. Although, I think it probably helps that you look fine without it.
I bet it was fun having a couple of days with the kids.
Keep up the good work Ricci.

Awww .. sounds like life is treating you well. I work a night shift too and it’s the best. I get to have my days free. Also .. I can’t wait to read about the peel. I haven’t tried on yet!

It seems like all the cupcake shops near us have gone out of business. It is nice to see they are hanging on in your neck of the woods.
Karissa @WithOurBest (@withourbest) says
I think switching from night to day shift would be life changing! Although it will be busier, it is so hard to work nights all the time! Glad you have more time to see people!
Ricci says
I actually switched from days back to nights…it’s funny how now I have more time for things!! HA!!
Rebecca Swenor says
It is always fun watching the niece’s kids play tball. The No. 7 products are something I have been wanting to try because I have heard noting but good about them. Thanks for sharing these awesome Friday five.
Kelly Hutchinson says
I worked in a hospital as a CNA when I was in nursing school. We were only allowed to wear black scrubs. Yawn!
Tiffany Hathorn says
My mom used to work nights at St. Vincent and it was really hard on her. We barely ever saw her that year because she slept most of the day. And the days she had off, she spent them with my stepfather. I’m so glad she switched back to the day shift. But I also appreciate that you do what needs to be done to help those babies. You do important work!
Ricci says
Thanks, I worked nights for 3 years and then switched to days and have been on days for the past 6 years. Going back to nights is a good change for me because it seems like now I actually have time to see people and do things! HA!
Love You Wedding says
I used to work the night shift for a decade . I loved that there was no more traffic so it was an easy drive to work. I get to sleep in the day time, in all its quiet glory because every one else has left for school or work. :) You deserve a pat on the back for your dedication to caring for the little ones at the NICU.

Night shift is a huge adjustment. I did it for a years and I felt it aged me quite a bit. I never had trouble sleeping during the day.
I need to try the peel.
Shirley Martinez says
You have a contagious smile! It’s seems like all in your life is falling into place. Congrats!
Lynndee says
I agree, that cupcake shop really looks super cute. Wish we have one here too. I would love to try their cupcakes!
Lily@militaryfamof8 says
Night shift is really a big tough shift but at least you will have more time now with your family in the day. :)
Jennifer G says
Now that cupcake shop totally grabbed me! I wish there was something like that around here that we could visit.

I also believe kid sports are hilarious for sure. The younger the better. I’m on the hunt for new makeup. Cupcakes sound delicious.
Aduke Schulist says
I need to road trip with you to that cupcake shop. I bet they taste amazing.
Paula Schuck says
That cupcake shop looks amazing! Totally worth a road trip I’d say.
