I can’t believe it’s almost Christmas!! I know I say that every time I talk about the time of year but this time I really mean it. 2016 is almost over. It can’t be!! But it is…sigh. Along with the excitement of Christmas, New Year’s and all the days in between comes stress. Stress in shopping for the perfect gift, getting out in those crazy crowds, stretching your budget to buy just one more thing and the stresses of everyday life! Ugh.
I don’t know about you but stressing out over all of this ridiculous stuff has really cut into my sleep lately. I feel like I don’t get enough sleep as is on a normal night but this end of year jazz has me all wound up. I normally sleep like a rock but I have been finding it harder and harder to simply fall asleep at night. Once I fall asleep I am golden but getting there has been awful. So I did something a little crazy. I changed up my sleep routine.
Yes, you read that right. The girl who thinks she likes change but really doesn’t changed up something as important as her sleep routine and you know what? It has worked!!! I know I am always on the lookout for great tips and tricks from y’all so today I am to share my Holiday Sleep Routine with you!! Here we go…
First things first I started going to bed earlier. Sounds easy enough to do but that is actually really hard for me. On the days that I work my regular job I work 12.5 hour days and don’t get home until 7:45 at night. I aim to be in bed by 9:30pm so that only leaves me a little under two hours to let the dog out, find something to eat, get ready for bed, catch up on my blog and social media and then wind down for bed. Ugh. Sometimes I get stressed out just thinking about all of that. In order to help myself get in bed earlier I have started eating dinner at work so I don’t have to worry about that when I get home and I have hired a VA to help with social media stuff. Trust me, it’s worth it if I can save my sanity.
Next up I aim to start winding down by 9pm and by winding down I mean washing my face, letting the dog out one more time, putting on my pjs, shutting down the house for the night and crawling in bed. This is my favorite face wash (it’s been discontinued, of course, but this is where I stocked up on it) that really gets all the makeup off my face and then I use this toner and then this face cream. I just bought this Garnier Sleeping Cream a few weeks ago and love it so far! It contains essential oils and is really hydrating which is super important this time of year.
Speaking of hydrating I have also been using this Aveda Hand Cream on both my hands and feet before bed. It leaves them super soft and isn’t too light. I like a heavier cream during the winter months. I have also still been using my Bite Beauty Agave Lip Mask before bed. I keep both of those right by my bed so I can grab them and apply straight from the bed! HA!
After my face is done and the dog is back in the house I crawl into bed. Yes, I said crawl. Most nights it certainly feels that way. I like to read before bed and usually read on my iPhone or Kindle but lately I have imposed a strict no electronics in the bed rule and have been reading real books. This forces me to read with my bedside lamp on and when I turn it out I’m done. No more checking tiny screens, straining my eyes and staying up later than intended.
One more thing that has helped my new sleep routine is new pi’s!! I love pajamas and usually put them on to wear them around around the house as soon as I get home from work, HA! I didn’t have any cute winter pi’s until recently when I went to Lane Bryant and found these bad boys! I love that this set is a legging and tunic combo! I don’t sleep in pants but love to wear sleep pants around the house. I also love the tunic length and the fact that it’s not a super heavy material because I don’t get too hot wearing it at night. I can’t stand to be too hot when I sleep!
I also picked up these gorgeous little fuzzy socks when I was in Lane Bryant. You can’t go wrong with fuzzy socks that have grippes on the bottom. I wear mine around the house and am going back to get more to give as Christmas gifts! LOL!!
So that is my new sleep routine…earlier bedtime, new face cream, moisturized hands and lips, no electronics in the bed and new holiday pjs!! Whew! I feel like that was really long?? LOL!!
Do the holidays stress you out??
Have you changed your sleep routine??

The holidays are so much fun but they do stress me out. I suppose that’s mainly due to the fact that I change my sleep routine for the worst. In ever get enough sleep during the holidays.
The holidays definitely stress me out, but usually sleep even more when I’m stressed lol. Your skin looks great by the way!
I have used this and it is amazing! I love how great it works and how fast you can tell a difference, thanks for sharing!
I have a terrible time sleeping at night anyway, I could use any help I can get to sleep even when it’s not the holidays.
We’re same! I really love your routine, sleeping makes me power up and it’s my stress reliever.
What a cute sweater! I really love how you working out stressed.
Love the sweater and the cute socks! The holidays can be stressful for sure!
Those look like some wonderful products. I really love that sweater. I need one of those!
I could really use the Aveda Hand Cream. My hands get so dry this time of the year. These are all great products.
I think sleep is very important thru the holidays. It is usually a stressful time and with stress comes added problems. I try to keep a consistent schedule too.
i so love the tee and socks. how cute. i used to feel like this all the time when living in michigan
That shirt is TOO cute!! I need to get one! I love that cream too, it works wonders for me! Such a fun post!
I love shopping at Lane Bryant when I’m not pregnant. That pj set looks so cute and comfy! And I can’t wait to check out that book!
I’ve had quite a few tasks so my schedule is off. I’m working to get back on task because I’m uber sleepy. – Yolonda
Nothing changes my sleep routine. The time varies but one of the good things to come from my time in the Army was the gift to sleep anywhere, at any time for any reason. I don’t always stay asleep, but falling asleep is no problem.
I have always been an insomniac. When I was little I would stay up and read and now when I’m up all night I write. :)
