It’s no secret that I am a huge book nerd. I read as many books, e-books, and listen to as many audiobooks as I can get my hands on!! I am huge chick lit and YA fan and so that’s what I mostly read. I am also obsessed with books about World War II, weird but true.
I haven’t done a “what I’m reading” post in a hot minute so this post is more than overdue. This isn’t all the books I have read lately but they are some of my favorites. I get most of my books from my local library. They have a fantastic E-Library where you can check out e-books or audiobooks. I love love love using the E-Library because let’s face it, books are expensive!! Especially if you read as much as I do. Plus reading e-books is so much easier that lugging an actual book around. Sad, but true.
So, without further ado, here we go!
The Husband’s Secret by Liane Moriarty. It all started when I wanted to read Liane Moriarty’s Big Little Lies but my library was out of copies so I checked this out instead. I loved it and since then have read several of her other books, including Big Little Lies! I do that sometimes…when I like an author I read all of their books I can get my hands on. This book is about a woman whose husband writes her a letter to read when he dies only she finds it while he’s alive and it not only affects her life but the lives of other women in the community as well. It’s a page turner for sure!!
Bliss by Shay Mitchell. I am usually wary about reading fiction book shy actors, they are either really good or really bad but I surprised myself by really loving this book! It’s a quick read about three friends who are trying to find their way in life and everything that happens to them. It’s all about relationships…friendships, relationships with your parents, relationships with men, etc. It’s a good book and should hopefully have a followup!
In a Dark, Dark Wood by Ruth Ware. Again, this started by me wanting to read The Woman in Cabin 10 but it was unavailable but this book by the same author was available so I read it and loved it. This book is about a woman who is invited to her ex-BFF’s bachelorette party and all hell breaks loose. Someone dies and no one remembers anything, it’s super suspenseful!! Now I can’t wait to read The Woman in Cabin 10 when it becomes available!!!
The Hammer of Thor by Rick Riordan. I am a huge Percy Jackson fan from way back and have loved all of Rick Riordan’s post-PJ series. This is a new series and stars Annabeth’s cousin, Magnus Chase and is about Norse mythology vs his usual Greek Gods and Goddesses. I loved this book from start to finish and can’t wait to read the next one! Rick Riordan also just came out with a new series about the Greek God Apollo that I just finished listening to and it was so good! If you are a history buff you will totally get something out of these books too, they aren’t just for kids!
The Nest by Cynthia D’Aprix Sweeney. I went back to my chick lit roots when I read this book. It is about a family of four children that is waiting on the youngest to hit 40 so that they may cash in their trust funds, labeled “The Nest”. It is a good book about an extremely dysfunctional family, an accident, money troubles, and a stolen statue. I loved it and now I need to look up more books by this author!
Another book I read recently is Caraval by Stephanie Garber. It is set to release January 2017 but I got to read it so that I could review it and y’all. I could not put it down!!! If you are into dystopian YA lit then you will definitely love this book. It is set on an island and is about two sisters who plan on escaping and participating in Caraval, a far-away once a year performance where real people get to participate in the “show” in order to win a life changing prize. This book is all about magic and not believing everything you see. It carries an air of mystery about it and darkly enchanting. I can’t wait for it to come out so that you can read it too!! I also can’t wait to read the next book in the series.
And that is what I have been reading lately. Lots of YA, lots of chick lit, lots of really good books!!
Do you like to read??
What have you been reading lately??

I love the list of books you have here! I need to add them to mine. I am so far behind on my reading it might take until I’m 80 just to catch up to my book list LOL.

These books sound great. I have few that I’ve read because, like you, what I was originally looking for wasn’t available. Those are usually the best ones.

I have always been into Greek Mythology and have tried to write my own stories bases on it. I am going to have to check out “The Hammer of Thor” because I was a fan of the Percy Jackson Series and I don’t think I will be disappointed.

I love Rick Riordan, but his latest series just doesn’t hold my interest like the original ones. The Nest is also on my Nook “To Be Read” shelf, I am hoping to get to it over the Christmas holiday.

One of my 2017 goals is to make some time to read! My kids are getting older and I need to get my hands on a book once in awhile and just sit and relax while reading.

You’ve been mighty busy. Reading books is so relaxing for me, but it is hard to carve out the time. I’m currently reading Taraji P. Henson’s book.
