I think I have mentioned on here before that I am a respiratory therapist and I work in a large hospital in central Arkansas. I love my job and the satisfaction I get from helping to take care of other people but sometimes I just feel run down!! I work mostly days but have been picking up a few night shifts lately and switching back and forth has totally screwed up my sleep pattern and we all know how important good sleep is!
In order to help myself make the most out of whatever sleep I get these days I find it’s super important to have a routine that I do every time I go to bed. This helps trick my mind into slowing down and getting me to sleep quickly no matter if it’s day or night time, or if I’m getting 8 hours of sleep or 4. So today I thought I would share with you my top five tips and tricks for getting a better night’s sleep!
STEP ONE – Get clean! I try to relax by taking a quick shower or bath. I can’t go to sleep if I feel yuck so a bath is always number one on my list…a bubble bath is always a plus! After my bath I wash my face and brush my teeth and go ahead and put my Invisalign retainer in.
STEP TWO – Mask! I will use a toner on my face and then slather on a sleeping cream. Lately I have been using my Body Shop Oils of Life Intensely Revitalizing Sleeping Cream. It has several essential oils in it and by using it every night (or day) before bed just the scent of it starts making me sleepy!
STEP THREE – Eyes! I have also been using a new eye gel, OZ Naturals Matrix 6 Mega Bright Eye Gel, to help with these crazy bags I have been seeing under my eyes more often than not lately. This eye gel is packed with ingredients that deliver including Haloxyl for dark circles, Matrixyl Synthe’6 to help lift wrinkles, skin-protecting Apple Stem, Caffeine to reduce puffiness and Hyaluronic Acid to attract moisture. You can use it in the morning, at night, or both but I have only been using it at night so far.
STEP FOUR – Diffuse! After my face is done I get my diffuser ready…I like to diffuse Lavender Oil and Balance blend from DoTerra while I sleep. Those two combined both smell amazing and make me sleep like a baby!!
STEP FIVE – Read a good book! Finally I am ready to climb into bed with a good book. I just started reading Uninvited: Living When You Feel Less Than, Left Out, and Lonely by Lysa TerKeurst. I haven’t gotten very far yet but I can tell this is going to be an amazing read! I am normally a chick lit kind of girl but I saw several reviews of this book that were really good and it seemed like exactly what I need right now. I am always down for an inspirational read!
I am pretty much down for the count at this point. After going through this routine I am usually asleep pretty fast any time of the day. I think there is something to be said for carrying out the same routine when getting ready for bed that tricks your mind into getting sleepy. I am lucky that this works for me and I don’t get insomnia much and can usually get a good few hours of sleep at any time. This is important when you are working shift work and sometimes need to be awake and functioning at all hours of the night.
Now what works for me may not work for you but my suggestion for you would be to keep trying to figure out your sleep routine and stick with it and it will work!
Thank you to OZ Naturals for sending me this amazing Matrix 6 Mega Bright Eye Gel to try, I really love it and can tell it’s working to reduce the puffiness around my eyes. They were also sweet enough to send me a bottle to pass on to one of my fabulous readers!
Please comment on this post and tell me why you want to WIN a bottle of Matrix 6 Mega Bright Eye Gel for yourself!!
What is your “sleep routine”??

I take low doses of melatonin. It has to be taken over time, but it mellows me out. I also have loved to be a night owl. I broke myself of it by taking a week to wear myself out, and jump started my sleep schedule by going back to bed around midnight, instead of 3 or 4am.

Working night shifts is so hard. I did that for a few years and I found that it is so draining. You miss out on daylight hours. I thought that I would enjoy it since I am a night owl. But it seems like working nights took years off my body.
