Mother, Can You NOT?

This post contains affiliate links.

A little over a year ago, my friend Logan introduced me to this hilarious Instagram account, @CrazyJewishMom If you already follow her then you know what I’m talking about, if you don’t then you need to check it out ASAP.

Basically the @CrazyJewishMom IG is all screenshots of one crazy jewish mother’s texts to her daughter. And not your typical “call home” “Love you!” texts. This mom is the definition of a helicopter mom (except she calls herself a “drone mom”, HA) and she both calls and texts her daughter hundreds of times a day. The texts are about everything from Kate’s boyfriend (SuperJew), Kate’s lack of an engagement ring (“no ring on the finger, you must not linger!”), vagina everything, Kate’s Brooklyn apartment (the deathtrap), and anything else you can think of. I seriously crack up every time I scroll through their IG account.

Recently Kate Siegal, the creator of @CrazyJewishMom, wrote a book about growing up with her crazy mom and thanks to Blogging for Books, I got the opportunity to get a free copy of the book in exchange for a review here! So while this may technically be a sponsored post, this is strictly my opinion.

mother can you not

Mother, Can You Not is basically back story for a lot of the texts and the stories from Kate’s childhood that are absolutely hilarious!!! I literally read this book in one day. It’s a very light, fun read and I was rolling laughing the whole time. I have a feeling that if my Mom was still around (she passed away when I was 18) this would totally be us!!

Here’s a little bit more about the book…

“Based on the wildly popular Instagram account @CrazyJewishMom, Kate Siegel’s essay collection about life with the woman who redefined the term “helicopter mom”

There is nothing more wonderful than a mother’s love. There is also nothing more annoying. Who else can proudly insist that you’re perfect while simultaneously making you question every career, fashion, and relationship decision you have ever made?

No one understands the delicate mother-daughter dynamic better than Kate Siegel—her own mother drove her so crazy that she decided to broadcast their hilarious conversations on Instagram. Soon, hundreds of thousands of people were following their daily text exchanges, eager to see what outrageous thing Kate’s mom would do next. Now, in Mother, Can You NOT?, Kate pays tribute to the woman who invented the concept of drone parenting.

From embarrassing moments (like crashing Kate’s gynecological exams) to outrageous stories (like the time she made Kate steal a cat from the pound) to hilarious celebrations (including but not limited to parties for Kate’s menstrual cycles), Mother, Can you NOT? lovingly lampoons the lengths to which our mothers will go to better our lives (even if it feels like they’re ruining them in the process).”

Mother, Can You NOT? is the perfect book to pack and read while traveling this summer or by the beach or pool. I know I will definitely be reading it again soon! I love reading books twice, I feel like I read things that I missed the first time!

Thank you Kate, for letting us into your life and laughing with you, never at you! And thank you again Blogging for Books for the free book!!!

Do you follow @CrazyJewishMom ??
