My Favorite Dry Shampoo

This post contains affiliate links.

The other day I posted about my latest Birchbox and had a lot of questions about dry shampoo so today I thought I would tell you about a few of my favorites and how I use mine!

dryshampoo

Dove Refresh+Care Dry Shampoo / Living Proof Dry Shampoo / Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray / Rockaholic Dirty Secret Dry Shampoo / Not Your Mother’s Clean Freak Dry Shampoo

First things first, I have really dark hair (duh) so I tend to opt for clear sprays. A few of these I am going to talk about are not but they are amazing so they made the list anyway!

Let’s talk about how I use dry shampoo. I used to be a daily shampoo, conditioner, blow dry, and straighten or curl. Every single day. Do you even know how much damage I was doing to my hair? It was ridiculous. Now I only wash hair once or twice a week. Sounds gross but my hair has never been healthier.

I try to wash and condition my hair on Sundays and Thursdays right before I go to bed. I use Herbal Essence shampoo and conditioner, nothing fancy. I wash and condition, blow dry, and then spray the roots with dry shampoo before I go to bed. After I spray it I let it sit for a minute or two, then I rub it in a little bit and then I go to bed.

The next day when I get up all I have to do is run a brush through it and style it and then I’m good to go for a few days! Before I go to bed each night I will spray the roots with dry shampoo again and rub it in and put it in a loose bun on top of my head. I take a shower every morning and usually just leave it in the loose bun and cover it with a shower cap so it doesn’t get wet. After my shower I take it down, brush it out and straighten the top or recurl the pieces by my face and I am good to go for the day. That’s it. My hair literally takes 5 minutes on the mornings after I don’t wash it. It’s fabulous!!!

Some people may think it’s gross to only wash your hair once or twice a week but it’s actually really healthy. When you wash your hair every day you strip all of the natural oils out of it and from your scalp and that causes your scalp to overproduce oil in order to compensate which makes your hair seem like it needs to be washed again. It’s a tough cycle to break and the first few days will be rough but trust me on this, you can do it and it is so worth it!!

Now onto the different dry shampoos I love!!

First up is Dove Refresh+Care Dry Shampoo. This dry shampoo smells amazing and doesn’t break the bank at under $5 a pop. It is white so I don’t use it as much and I only use it before bed because when I wake up in the morning the white residue is mostly gone.

Next is Living Proof Dry Shampoo which you all wanted to try after I talked about it being in my Birchbox. This one is a little bit more pricy at $22 a bottle but it is worth it to me! It’s available at Ulta and if you have points to spend that would be a great way to spend them! I love the refreshing smell of this one and it doesn’t make my hair feel gritty. I could use this one before bed or to refresh right before leaving the house. It’s a very light spray.

The first dry shampoo I ever fell in love with was Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray. Now this is technically a dry texturizing spray but it works the same way. The smell is amazing and if you have ever smelled Oribe products then you know what I mean. This product is a splurge at $42 a bottle but my first bottle lasted me almost a whole year so I’m not too mad about the price. This product is clear and I can use it whenever. It is also a little heavier and you can feel a buildup so I use it sparingly but you really don’t need much to make it work. When I use this spray I just use it at night before bed and it’s good for a few days.

Next up is Rockaholic Dirty Secret Dry Shampoo which s currently on sale at Ulta for $9.99 a bottle (normally $21.99)! This product smells light and refreshing and really does a great job. It does have a bit of white color to it so it’s one I use before bed and not right before leaving the house but I still love it!

And finally Not Your Mother’s Clean Freak Dry Shampoo. This was the first clear dry shampoo I found and used it for a ing time before I decided to branch out and see what else was out there. I actually won my first bottle of this from Influenster and it is still one of my faves. It isn’t heavy or gritty and really leaves you hair feeling clean!

Whew!! I think I covered it all!!

Do you use a dry shampoo??
Which is your favorite??

I get keratin treatments, so I can only use the keratin shampoo (dry or regular) on my hair. Dry shampoo is great for traveling.

I have never tried a dry shampoo. I am kind of curious how it would work of me. I would love to use it on a trip if it works.

I love dry shampoos. I take them with me on all my trips. They’re great for staying fresh on the go, and I don’t have to worry about crazy spills.

You should try the Batiste for dark/brunette hair! I swear by it! I get it at Rite Aid, but I think they have it at Ulta too!

I used to use dry shampoo when my hair was really oily. Now it’s so dry and fine, I wonder if I’d get the same results. I should try it and see :).

I may have to check out a few of these and see how I like them. I tend to like Dove products so that might be a good start for me.

I used this years ago but for some reason forgot about it. My SIL swears by it. I have super dry hair, so I don’t like to put too much stuff in it.

I have only used Tresemme and Got2B so far but I am always looking for the next one. Dyeing my hair so much with odd colors I don’t like to lose color with washing it a lot, they are a lifesaver!

I remember one time our building we lived in about 6 years ago lost water and power for 3 days and we were heading on vacation … I had to use baby powder in my hair because I couldn’t wash it before we left. I now keep dry shampoo on hand at all times. I will have to check these ones out!

I do like the Clean Freak dry shampoo. I like to change up my hair products, so I’m looking for a few others to rotate with the Clean Freak product. I have tried a few (not listed here) that didn’t work well.

I used to wash and condition my hair everyday but it was really drying it out. I could definitely use a good dry shampoo to extend washing for a couple more days.

I am a sucker for packaging…it will make me try something just because of it. That’s why if I had to choose from all of these options, the Not Your Mother’s Clean Freak Dry Shampoo catches my eye.

I love dry shampoo. I don’t like to wash my hair everyday because I colour it. If you do that, your colour will feed and get dull very quickly. A dry shampoo helps to maintain my hair colour. I usually use Tresemme but I’ll have to check out these other ones.
