I have to say I have had a pretty fabulous weekend. I had no plans to start with and spent Friday just hanging out at my house watching movies. My left side is still sore from surgery so I do a lot of hanging around the house these days. I’m going back to work the week after Christmas so I better cherish this time just doing whatever I want…lol!
Anyway, early Saturday morning I get a call from my older sister reminding me it was my step-mom’s birthday Sunday (which I already knew) and that she was throwing her a surprise party that night. A little short notice but my dad wasn’t sure I would be able to drive that far so soon after surgery. Well I surprised everyone, including myself, and decided to go. I got to my older sister’s house early that afternoon and we had to hide my SUV behind her house so my step-mom wouldn’t see it (she and her husband live right down the road from my parents). We played wii all afternoon and my Dad came over for a little while to check on the cake. My sister makes the BEST cakes and she made one in Texas A&M colors because that’s where my step-mom went to college. All in all it was a great afternoon.
That night we all went to go eat at my parents favorite restaurant, Bass Haven. It is a local restaurant on a lake and it has super yummy seafood!!! We successfully surprised my step-mom and it was a good night! I got to spend time with my family which is awesome too! My dad and step-mom were there as well as my older sister and her husband, little sister and her boyfriend, and step-brother, his wife, and their two kids. My niece Haileigh is 2 1/2 and my nephew Bruce is 6 months. They are too cute!! Bruce was all smiles and giggles all night and Haileigh was too cute. She kept lap hopping and telling everyone Happy Birthday. Another birthday party was in the restaurant at the same time we were and they sang and did cake before we did and after that Haileigh kept saying “I want a Happy Birthday too!” How adorable is that??!!
So after reading that and some of my other posts you may realize that I have a large family. This is very true. A very large dysfunctional family…LOL…but I love them all to pieces!! I guess now is as good as any time to tell you about them. I started out the only child to my wonderful mom and dad. Five and a half years later my little brother was born! About a year after that my dad passed away from complications after a car wreck. My mom met my step-dad (who I call dad now) a couple years later when I was 7. After they got married I gained an older brother, an older sister, and a younger sister. It was just us for a long time until my mom was diagnosed with cancer. She lived for 4 years and passed away the summer after I graduated from high school. After that my dad dated and got married but that didn’t last (thank goodness!!!) and then he met and married my current step-mom who is totally AWESOME!! She has one son. So there is my family in a nutshell. They are all married except for me and my younger sister. She was married but is now divorced and she has the sweetest little girl!! I have 3 nieces and 2 nephews total. So like I said, it is a very large, very dysfunctional family…lol!!
So, with all that has gone on in my life it is no wonder that I am a little gun shy in the relationship and marriage department. Oh well like I said in my previous post, if it is meant to happen it will, I’m leaving that one up to God. Well,I’m getting tired after all of that so I will leave you with this…cherish every moment because you never know when it will be your last.
