Last night I made a quick trip to Memphis to see Fiddler on the Roof. I am musical theater obsessed and had never seen Fiddler until last night and y’all. It was such an AMAZING show!!!
I love traveling to Memphis to the Orpheum for shows, it’s only a couple of hours from me and the theater is so historic and just plain beautiful! Working night shift has it’s perks so I can sleep all day, wake up in time to get ready and drive to Memphis and then drive back all in the same night and not be tired. If I was still working days that would definitely require an overnight trip or a weekend trip so I could go to a matinee.
Like pretty much every other show I have seen thus far (except musicals based off movies I have seen) I wasn’t really sure what Fiddler on the Roof was about. I knew it was a classic and that I wanted to see it and honestly I like not really knowing what shows are about before I see them because then I go in with zero expectations!
Fiddler on the Roof is about a community of Jewish people who are struggling to balance traditions while embracing new experiences in a changing world. It takes place in Imperial Russia in the early 1900’s and very much covers the eviction of Jewish people from their villages by the Tsar. I’m going to go ahead and tell you that tears were shed during this performance. But then I cry at pretty much every musical I go see.
Overall I loved this musical and can’t believe I hadn’t seen it before now! It was truly an incredible and moving experience and I would definitely go see it again!!
I am also super excited because the Orpheum just released it’s Broadway Show Lineup for the 2019-2020 season and I am already planning on seeing at least 4 or 5 shows! The shows I want to see are Dear Evan Hansen, The Book of Mormon, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and Disney’s Aladdin! There are a few more shows too in the line up I may go see but those are on my “must see” list!
I also took a bathroom selfie last night because why not?! I LOVE the bathrooms at the Orpheum!!

I’ve seen Fiddler many times, as a Broadway show and also in local theater. I saw Kinky Boots at the Orpheum a few years ago. It is a beautiful theater.
