Self care. Up until a year or two ago I had never even heard of self care but now I feel like I hear about it every day. Every time I see someone getting a massage, mani, pedi, facial, etc they call it self care and I feel like a lot of people think that it has to be expensive because of that but it’s really not! Personally I think that self care is anything you do to make yourself feel better and for everyone this is different, so today I am going to share some of my favorite ways to practice self care!
ONE. Take vitamins. Self care for me includes remembering to take my daily vitamins. Yes, this is something I should already be doing but it’s something I really struggle with. I am a very visual person and if I put my vitamins away in a drawer or hide them in a cabinet I can almost guarantee that I’m not going to take them. I kept seeing these Ritual Vitamins pop up on social media and after doing a little research on them I decided to take the plunge and order them for myself. They are pretty, taste like mint, only have things I actually need in them and pretty fun to take (they come with a little sticker book and every day that you take them you put a sticker on the day) so I actually look forward to taking them when I wake up for the day and I am proud to say that I haven’t forgotten a day yet!! I also like that they have an auto-ship (which I normally hate) but this way I can’t use the excuse that I forgot to order them!!
TWO. Take a long hot bath! There is absolutely nothing in the world that a super hot bath, an amazing bath bomb and a good book can’t cure. After a mentally draining day or a tough night at work I love to come home and soak my troubles away and my newly discovered FizzBizz Twisted Mermaid Bath Bombs make that bath so much better!! These mini bath bombs are small but mighty…the Twisted Mermaid bath bombs smell like berries, citrus and sweet sugar and y’all. I need more in my life ASAP!! They are made locally in Red Lick TX and make my skin feel ridiculously super soft!!! I need to order some more ASAP!!
THREE. Move my body. I haven’t been working out regularly lately…because life…and I can tell. Moving my body in some way, whether that be taking Sophie for a walk, going to the gym, having a dance party in my living room, etc makes me feel good and I miss that feeling. So for my self-care journey I recently purchased Body Boss and can’t wait to use it! I grabbed my copy on sale and I think it’s worth it for 16 weeks of workouts. It’s far less than paying a personal trainer and it’s challenging and will make me feel good about myself and you just can’t put a price on that. So yea, moving my body is definitely self care to me!
FOUR. Me time! Most people hear me say that I need “me time” and think I am absolutely crazy but hear me out. Yes I am a single lady BUT I work a LOT and I feel like on my days off I am so swamped with things to do…errands to run, family to see, chores around the house to do, etc) that I ever get time to sit back, kick my shoes off and relax. So I have made it a point to take a few minutes to myself every single day and no thing at all. This may be me sitting on the couch before work and eating breakfast and it may be sitting on my balcony with a glass of wine but either way it’s time just for me and no one else. I need those few minutes a day to stay sane.
And those, ladies and gents are four ways that I enjoy self care that aren’t crazy expensive! I think everyone has their own version of self care and for some people that is spending tons of money on spa days and vacations but for most people that’s not something they can do and I just wanted you to know that it’s OK and self care is really about what makes you feel good about yourself!! So get out there and enjoy your own version of self care, whatever that may be!
How do you enjoy self care??

It’s been a looong time since I had a long hot bath. I usually take only 5 minutes in the shower since I have to move fast to not be late for work every morning. I miss this and I’d like to try your recommended bath bombs.

I love all of your tips. I have the same supplements and love them. I love having an at home spa day.

I’m such a shower person. My daughters laugh at me because I never take the time to soak in the tub. Maybe I need to try it again! I do believe in taking a little me time every single day. We can become so busy that we forget about taking care of ourselves.

I try to look for deals on pedicures. I dont really care about nails because I just ruin any manicure the next day but pedicures are so relaxing and really is self care at it’s finest.

I have just started in the past few months taking supplements and eating more healthy. I need my me time also!

Thank you for the Self Care tips and I know I need to start making time for myself because I would feel better and not be so stressed all the time and would get more done and I would be a nicer person people would like to be around.

I enjoy my self care with m y daily workouts. Unfortunately my life has gotten in the way of that recently as well. Hopefully next week I will be able to get back on track. Your body really does start to feel a difference when you start missing your workouts.

I love all your suggestion about self care. For me it is a nice long shower, some wonderful body lotion, big cold glass of water and a good book to relax.

Yes, so true! Self care for me is easy: I love to read, so I just grab books from the library! I also get a giant Diet Coke from the Corner Store for .79 and I’m good to go.

I tried Body Boss a few months back and was so happy with the workout and results. I have never taken a vitamin but I should try this one.

These are great tips. For me self care means making time to do the things I love. I love relaxing with a good book or movie. I also like to unwind with face masks.

True, true, true. We tend to think of self-care as spas and pedicures and only things that cost lots of $$. I’m familiar with the living room dance party).

A good bath is always so relaxing to me. I love using fun bath bombs to make it even better for myself.

I was getting Ritual vitamins for awhile and loved them! I need to renew my subscription, I was looking for something cheaper but Ritual really is such a great product for the money, I haven’t been able to find anything I liked enough to replace them. Also I need those bath bombs!

All you need is time to properly take care of yourself. Staying active is very important and yes for the supplements.

I never thought of vitamins as being part of self care, but you’re so right? and I sooo need to be better about taking my vitamins!
Heather says
It’s not that I don’t have the money… I don’t have the time. I know… I need to make the time.

Self care is so very important! There is nothing that can take place of making sure that you feel your absolute best.

I love this post so much because I am the worst at self care for myself. But I am proud to say I do take Rituals vitamins everyday! I love them!

For me, self care can be as easy as just taking a nap! Ha! And that’s pretty cheap if you ask me ;)

These are some great tips. And you’re absolutely right that self-care doesn’t have to cost lots of money. I need some more “me” time. I’m working on carving that out. And working out is HUGE for me. I can always tell when I take too much time off.
