The Benefits of Taking Collagen Peptides

This post contains affiliate links.

Collagen Peptides. If you are active on social media you may have seen and read a lot about people taking collagen peptides lately. It seems like everyone I know is taking them and raving about them and I honestly had no idea what they did or if there were any benefits to taking them so I did what any collagen newbie would do and I went on Amazon and ordered myself some. Because everyone orders something without knowing exactly what they do right? Just me? HA!

After I got my collagen peptides in the mail I decided to do a little research on them. I chose the Vital Proteins brand because that’s what I had seen everyone else taking plus they had the best reviews on Amazon at the time. There are many other brands selling collagen out there, this is just what I chose based on the people that I trust and have followed for a long time taking them. To each their own.

Things I already knew about collagen peptides when I placed my original order:

  1. They are flavorless and you can put them in anything.
  2. They mix well in both hot and cold liquids.

And that’s about it, HA! Things I learned after I received my collagen peptides:

  1. Collagen is a protein.
  2. Supports overall health and wellness.
  3. Promotes healthy immune and digestive systems.
  4. Promotes youthful skin, healthier hair and stronger nails.
  5. Contributes to a healthy diet and helps maintain weight.
  6. Keeps bones healthy and strong.
  7. Supports joint health.

I started by mixing my collagen peptides into my coffee in the mornings. I figured it was hot so that must be the best way. Then I switched my coffee for hot Spark and went that route. Since then I have switched mixing it in cold Spark and I can honestly say I can’t tell a difference. It mixes just as well in cold beverages as it does in warm ones and I can’t even taste it (as advertised).

You can also mix it in smoothies, soups, oatmeal, cereal, pretty much anything you can think of! I think I will stick to mixing it with my Spark simply because that’s something I drink every day when I wake up so it’s already part of my routine.

Now, as far as being able to tell if I’ve taken it, I’m not really sure? I feel like my hair has grown a little faster and is definitely stronger and my nails are a little stronger (I have also been getting regular manicures and actually taking care of my nails soooo…???).

I bought a small canister at first and when it ran out I was about a week without it before I remembered to order more and while I did feel little wonky (technical term there…HA) it was the holidays and I was eating like crap so who really knows? I have read where some people can tell that they missed a day of taking it. Maybe they are just really in tune with their bodies??

Overall I have been very pleased with taking it, have zero complaint about it and will continue to take it. I am always down for anything that can benefit my health and that isn’t anything extreme. Mixing a supplement in a drink isn’t extreme to me. If you have any questions about feel free to drop me a comment and ask or email me!

Vital Proteins comes in a small canister (I recommend this size if you just want to try it), a large canister and stick packets! Vital proteins also has a Marine Collagen (versus this beef version) and flavored Beauty Collagen Water if that’s more your style.

Have you taken collagen before??

I had no idea what they did, but now that I know they support joint health I want to get some for my husband. He has a bad knee and taking these might help!

I’ve never heard of collagen peptides before. I have heard of collagen in relation to skin, I had no idea there was a form you could put in food.

Interesting. I admit that I had no idea what it was. I would be curious to hear if you notice that you stop taking them again when life is more normal.

Sounds like a great product, and I love how versatile it is. I have been hearing about how important collagen is to incorporate into our diet, especially when it isn’t just for skin.

I have never taken collagen before. I’m glad it doesn’t have a taste because I think that would bother me. I would love stronger hair. It tends to break off these days very close to the root. I’m not sure what is going on with me. Maybe stress.

Before I read this article, I did not know that peptides were so useful. I have a poor immune system so I might have to start buying peptides online so I don’t get sick so much. My wife would also enjoy better hair so I’ll have to show her this also.
