What I’m Wearing: Kimono Edition

I’ve been getting a lot of questions about what I’ve been wearing lately, both in real life and here on the blog! I’m a plus size lady and I find that even in 2017 it’s hard to find cute plus size clothing options that don’t include “large black poncho” or “bermuda shorts” in the description. Ugh. I like bright, colorful pieces that I feel good in and I have been obsessed with kimonos for a while now so today I thought I would share a few of my favorites with you, plus how I’ve been styling them!

First things first, a number is just that, a number. I don’t really care what size clothing I buy because they really do vary by manufacturer. In one brand I may be a size 18 and in another a 20. I have even worn shorts in a size 22 before and they were the exact same band size as my size 18’s. It’s all very confusing, I know! This is where truing things on really does matter unless you don’t mind the hassle of returning something.

I would rather buy a pair of pants or shirt that fits me well and it be a bigger size than I would normally wear than wear something too tight that makes me feel uncomfortable or self-conscious just to buy a smaller size. Don’t do that to yourself because if you don’t feel comfortable in it you probably won’t wear it. You know exactly what I’m talking about, don’t you?

Ok, back to the subject at hand…KIMONOS!! I love kimonos because I feel like they really cover my flaws and they are super comfortable! I find a lot of them at boutiques (don’t even get me started on boutique sizing) and a few actually in stores. I have actually started seeing them a lot more in store and I am super pumped about that!! Although that means I should probably stay out of the stores because them I will buy them all, HA!!

So here we go with my kimono roundup!

ONE. Purple Floral Kimono.

So Is actually got this kimono an clearance at the end of summer last year (here is a similar one) but I still wear it pretty regularly and I get soooo many compliments on it!! I got it online from The Zig Zag Stripe and they have tons of other kimono options as well. I have worn this one with a grey tank top, white tank top, black tank top, but I think my favorite tank underneath it right now is this grey and white stripe ballet back top from Lane Bryant. It’s fun and even though I’m usually not one to mix patterns I think it works!! I love parking with a pair of rolled up dark skinny jeans and these fun Maruice’s Embellished sandals which are no longer in stock!! Sorry!! I also wore this outfit a couple months ago with my favorite hot pink Ugg loafers!

TWO. Medallion Oldie Cardigan.

This is another great kimono from The Zig Zag Stripe that I actually haven’t worn yet. I planned to wear it in Nashville this past weekend but never got a chance. I would have paired it with the same rolled up dark skinny jeans and sandals but I paired it with a black lace tank. This black tank top is actually a sleep tank top from Lane Bryant that I talked about last week in my Mother’s Day post but it also makes a cute tank to wear during the day! HA! What can I say? I like multi use items!!

THREE. Cream Floral Kimono.

I am sorry to say that I grabbed this beauty from a boutique that was at Vintage Market Days this past weekend in Nashville and I don’t know the boutiques name!! FAIL!! I paid cash for it and have no receipt which is a shame because it had a fantastic price point and even though it was “one zip fits most” it actually fit! I would pair this with a pair of shorts, the black swing tank, the sandals that are sold out (sorry guys!!!) and a pair of shorts! I got the shorts last year from Lane Bryant but here is a similar pair. I loved this kimono so much that I put it on right after I purchased it!! HA!! You can see it here…

FOUR. Floral Print Lace Inset Kimono.

I snatched this baby up at Torrid a couple weeks ago and have been wearing it like crazy ever since! It’s so bright and fun!! I usually wear it with my rolled up dark skinny jeans, white swing tank and my favorite StitchFix hot pink Lucky Brand ballet flats!! I love a bright pop of color!!

So that is what I have been wearing lately, kimono edition!!
