How to Make Shaved Legs Last Longer this Summer

This post contains affiliate links.

Spring is here which means that summer is right around the corner!! Now I don’t know about you but I love summer! Fall is my absolute favorite season but summer is a close second. There is nothing I love more than going to the lake, swimming in my neighborhood pool and going to my local watermark all day. I love love love being outside in the sun/water all day and we all know what those activities require. Shaved legs. Ugh.

As much as I love summer and being outside in the water all day I do not love shaving my legs but unfortunately if you don’t want to look like Sasquatch it’s a must. Fortunately for me, and now you, I have a few tried a true tricks that will help make your smooth legs last longer because shaving everyday is for the birds!

So let’s get to it! We have no time to waste!!

ONE. Soak! I like to shave in the bathtub versus the shower so I can get a good soak in. I can do both and the shower works great for a quick shave but if I want to do a better job the bathtub is just better. Soaking your legs in the bathtub before you shave removes any natural oil and hydrates the hair.

TWO. Exfoliate! Everyone knows that exfoliation is key in keeping your face super soft all year long. But not only is it great for your face it’s even better for your legs! I keep this Tree Hut Shave Prep Sugar Scrub in my shower at all times. This sugar scrub removes dead skin and brings the hair completely out of the follicle so you can get a closer shave. It’s best to start at your ankles and exfoliate upward because this goes “against the grain” and allows you the best exfoliation possible.

THREE. Use a Moisturizing Shave Gel. Confession- when I started shaving a million and one years ago I didn’t use shave gel. I read in some teen magazine that conditioner was better so that’s what I always used. Since then I have learned the error of my ways and have used Gillette Venus Shave Gel. For the past couple of years I have used the “touch of Olay” formula and I think it has really helped me get a closer shave! Plus that Sugarberry Bliss just smells good. HA!

FOUR. Use a Sharp Blade. Confession- again. I have used Gillette Venus razors for as long as I can remember. I love the multiple blades and how close a shave I get with them. However I don’t like  the price. Let’s face it, razor blades are expensive! In order to save a little money a couple of years ago I started buying the Venus disposable razors. They work just as well and don’t cost nearly as much! Plus there is usually a coupon for them in the P&G coupon insert in the Sunday paper and Walgreens has them buy one get one half off a couple of times a year and you can use two coupons (one for each item) and you can get them super cheap! You’re welcome!

FIVE. Moisturize! Perhaps the most important step in making your shaved legs last longer is to moisturize them. I feel like I talk about moisturizing your face a lot but don’t forget the rest of you body as well, especially your legs! I like to moisturize them right after I shave and then every morning when I get out of the shower and every night before bed. I was in Bath and Body Works the other day and grabbed this At the Beach lotion. It legit smells like every memory I have of the beach. It is DIVINE. Trust me.

So that’s it! My five ways to make your shaved legs last longer this summer! Enjoy!

What are your favorite ways to make your shaved legs last longer??

I am on the better end of this since my hair is blonde. So even if it starts growing out, I don’t feel too self-conscious about it. I like using nair; it seems to stay away for a longer amount of time.

I always use disposable razors now. Using a shaving gel some of my friends just use regular soap to lather their legs. Trying to get them to switch over to a gel. Moisturizing is always a must all the time.

I live in Texas where it gets extremely hot during the summer so long pants are not an option (Even in the office). I’ve found that shaving gel works wonders.

I almost always use shaving gel, although conditioner will do in a pinch too. But thankfully I’m blonde so I can skip a day if I need!

I am all for anything that keeps you from shaving every single day. If I can get it to last longer over the summer that makes me a very happy camper.

I’m gonna try this while I soak in my tub. Sounds like a really good idea. Especially during the hot, summer days.

I really hate how shaved hair grows back so quickly. These are really great tips and will definitely come in handy in the summer.

I love my sugar scrubs and never tried the brand you mentioned. I would like to. With short season coming, I am going to plan on exfoliating more after a long winter. We had 30 inches of snow in March!

I had no idea about the soaking in a tub vs standing in a shower. Also exfoliating .. I know it’s something I should do .. but when the days are busy it falls by the wayside. Your words of wisdom will definitely come in handy this summer!

I wouldn’t think about using the moisturizer being an element of making sure the shave lasted longer. But I guess it does make sense. I am just always amazed at how much you do to look beautiful.

I actually don’t know anyone that does like shaving their legs. I always use Gillette Venus razors and my body wash. Now I will have to try the Gillette Venus Shave Gel Olay Sugarberry Bliss. Thanks for sharing these awesome products.

I will have to do that soaking in the tub trick too. I also use disposable razors, because it is equally effective but costs less. My sons and husband use disposables too. I like the At The Beach body lotion. I will get one when I happen to be near a Bath and Body Works store.

Moisturizing shaving gels do wonders! I would also heed your advice to exfoliate before shaving. Maybe that would really help give a closer shave. Thanks for the tips!

I never realised soaking was good for shaving your legs. I usually shave my legs in the bath just because I find it easier. Good to know i’m doing some good
