My Mascara Combo for Longer, Fuller Lashes!

This post contains affiliate links.

I have gotten a lot of questions lately about my eyelashes…do I use extensions?? Are they falsies?? Is it really just mascara?? Do you use a primer?? The short answer to those questions is no, no, yes, yes. The longer answer is below…

I have talked about how brand loyal before and for my mascara is no exception to that rule. I have literally been using the same L’oreal mascara since I started wearing makeup, about 21 years ago. And now I just sound old…HA!

Side note- My mom wouldn’t let my sisters or I wear makeup until we were 13 and even then it was just some mascara and lip balm. What age were you when you were allowed to wear makeup??

Back to the main topic…I have been using L’oreal’s Voluminous Volume Building Mascara since I was started wearing makeup. I used the original version then and today I use the Carbon Black. I even went through a phase in high school where I only wore waterproof mascara and I wore the waterproof L’oreal Voluminous then too! What can I say, when I like something I keep using it. I mean, why mess with a good thing??

Today I only wear it on my bottom lashes because I feel like it gives just right about of coverage without overdoing it. I don’t like my lower lashes to feel heavy. I also don’t wear eyeliner under my eyes either because I feel like it makes my eyes look smaller.

On my top lashes I start with a layer of L’oreal Voluminous Lash Primer. This bad boy was an impulse buy at Kroger about a year ago and I have been obsessed since I found it. I used to use a much more expensive primer but this stuff works wonders on my lashes! I apply it from inner eye to outer eye making sure each and every lash is evenly coated. This primer makes my lashes even longer and really plumps them up.

I let my primer dry for a few seconds before adding a layer of Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara. I have been using Better Than Sex off and on for a few years now and it makes my lashes even longer and fuller and I like the super black color. I usually do two coats of this just to make sure it covers all of the primer.

To top everything off I will swipe a coat of Stila’s Huge Extreme Lash on. It doesn’t really lengthen for me but it adds some major volume. I don’t like to wear it by itself but it amazing at being a finisher for me.

So there you have it, all of my mascara secrets!! A little drugstore mixed wit high end and BOOM! Amazing results. And for those wondering, I don’t curl my lashes, I have never been any good at it plus I feel like mine are curled enough already? I’m sure it wouldn’t hurt to curl them some more but I just don’t see a need to do that just yet.

What is your favorite mascara combo??
Do you prefer drugstore or high end mascara??

I have heard nothing but amazing things about L’oreal’s Voluminous Volume Building Mascara (and from the looks of it, it definitely does wonders. Your lashes look amazing). I’ll have to try this out for myself!

I don’t know why I’ve never used a mascara primer. I do use eye primer and face primer. Normally, I use Lancome Hypnose Mascara. Your lashes are amazing. I need to do what you’re doing.

I never even knew there was mascara primer! I’m so out of date lol. I think I was in 10th grade when I started REALLY wearing make-up. I wore a little before then, but in the mid-80’s make-up was a must! I am not brand loyal at all! Right now I’m using NYC New York, but I tend to stick to Cover Girl or Maybelline.

Your lashes are great looking. I wouldn’t be able to wear my glasses if my lashes were that long. Lucky you.

You have seriously beautiful eyelashes! Mine are not that thick and long which is why I spend some time trying to make them appear fuller. I need to get that L’Oreal Voluminous Lash Primer too.

I love how thick your lashes are! If that mascara can make my lashes look that thick I am definitely on board! I cannot wait to try it.

You lashes look fabulous for sure! I’ve been wearing the same mascara for so many years that I probably need to try something new.

I’m not very familiar with mascara primer, but this has me intrigued. I sometimes struggle to get the perfect shade. Maybe this will help!

I’ve used that L’Oreal one before and really like it! I use Max Factor because it keeps my lashes curled and voluminous all day – I also use an Urban Decay one!
