We live in the digital age. I can’t tell you how often I get e-vites, party invites via Facebook and emails about events. I even text my friends rather than actually talk to them on the phone and who even writes a letter anymore? Shameful…I miss letters! And invitations! I also love all things paper and stationary. I love picking out just the perfect card to send to someone and there is absolutely nothing better than gorgeous, personalized stationary.
I don’t know about you but I always have a stack of thank you cards and plain stationary sitting around just waiting to be used!! I was lucky enough to get contacted by the fabulous ladies of Basic Invite who wanted to share with me their gorgeous invitations and send me some samples which I am, in turn, sharing with you today while I talk about the lost art of the written letter.
I don’t talk about it much on this blog but my Mom passed away the summer after I graduated high school. Not to date myself or anything but that was 15 years ago this past summer. She passed away before the days of Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest and Twitter (although I just know she would have loved social media) so I don’t have many digital photos of her. I also can’t go back and check her Facebook profile whenever I want to see what she her statuses were or just see what she was up to. But what I do have from her are letters.
I have her old journals, cards she wrote to me on my birthday and holidays and notes she wrote to herself. There is just nothing like looking through a random box and seeing something with her handwriting on it. It’s so personal and almost intimate seeing the things she wrote in her own hand. I love love love finding these little jewels and that has really inspired me to get out there and actually write more things by hand.
Writing more things by hand has really inspired me to up my stationary game. I usually just run to Target and grab whatever is in the dollar section, they have really cute cards, but they just aren’t very personal. I loved looking at all of the options Basic Invite has for personal stationary. They have a wide selection of personalized thank you cards, business cards and stationary. They have 180 different color options so you can make your selections uniquely you!
Basic Invite also sends samples of their work so you can hold it in your hand before committing to ordering so you know exactly what you will get. I love that!! They also leave no detail out and offer up to 40 different envelope colors so you invitations or stationary will stand out.
As for me, I am seriously loving the gold and silver foil prints. Basic Invite is now offering raised foil so as to make your card truly unique and give it that little bit of extra “oomph”. Plus it’s just classy and I love me some classy stationary.
One of my personal resolutions this year was to send more letters and hopefully I will get some back in return. I think letter writing is both good for the soul and good for the heart. Plus it’s always fun to check your mail and see a letter from a loved one or friend than junk mail or a bill. Just saying…
Let’s make checking the mail fun again in 2017 with the help of Basic Invite! So whether you are planning a wedding, hosting a baby shower or just need some fun stationary in your lift check out Basic Invite! You can also catch up with them on their Facebook, Pinterest, Instagram or Twitter!!
Do you like to write letters??
Not only is a written letter a lost art, but so is cursive. They don’t even teach it to kids in school anymore, so it will be like a secret language someday….
I miss the days of handwritten letters. My cousin and I would write each other often when I was a tween and she has kept every single one of those letters. I, too, love to find a card, recipe or note written by my mom. I cherish it even more now that she’s gone.
It really is a lost art. I can’t remember the last time I received – or wrote, for that matter – a letter. Technology has given us so much, but it’s also taken away.
I LOVE getting hand-written letters in the mail and I still do it quite often. THere’s nothing better than some good ol’ stationary and a hand-written thank you card!
I still like to get and send out handwritten letters! This day and time it is hardly ever done so doing it for somebody makes them feel a whole lot more special than just an email.
I agree that we have lost sight of that personal interaction. I used to write letters back and forth with my cousin in Oklahoma and cherished those envelopes when I got them :). I still send out Christmas cards where a lot of my friends have stopped. Content to post a message to facebook or sending a text :)
These are beautiful prints and would make great keepsake mementos. Nobody writes letters anymore. I can’t even remember when was the last time I received a hand written letter. Keeping a journal does help.
Wow, these paper products are incredibly beautiful! I love sending real letters and cards in the mail, there is just something really meaningful about it. I’m not great about things like holiday cards, but I always get thank you notes out after holidays and birthdays.
I keep hearing about Basic Invite. All the invitations and stationery that I have seen from them are beautiful!
I really miss the art of a written letter or even getting invitations in the mail. I remember when everyone would give our birthday invitiations- now it is all done through Facebook or text.
It’s okay to still talk
About it. Everyday without her is still a day that you are missing her and there is nothing wrong with it. She was a mom. I can tell she must have known that you loved her a whole lot.
I love writing letters.. I think its a special way to express our feeling to someone. Those cards look so beautiful.
I don’t write letters anymore but I treasure the ones I have. My grandmother and I use to write all the time. She died 15 years as well and I treasure them.
I send holiday cards and I make and mail party invitations. I remember the joy of getting mail.
I still send greeting cards and letter to love ones. I prefer doing it over text or email.
Basic Invite sounds like a great place to get hand written invites, Thank You letters etc. I will have to check them out for sure. Thanks for sharing this awesome place to get beautiful cards.
I also miss the days where handwritten letters were the norm. That was a very simple time and I think it was probably a time of less stress too! Nowadays, with the digital age, everything is done electronically.
I always have stationary sitting around as well. I miss the days of waiting for a letter to come from a pen pal. It was the highlight of my weeks. I would still truly enjoy that!
I haven’t hand written a letter in several years, but I can see where you would like it. Sometimes it’s the best way to express yourself, your true self. This stationary looks great!
I absolutely love this post ♥ I completely agree that hand-written letters are a lost art, as is cursive. I try to hand write as much as I can to add a more personal touch to things. The stationary you shared is adorable!
