Red Velvet Cake Batter Cookies {recipe}

My sister is the baker in the family, not me. I always try to bake cakes and cookies and breads but they never turn out right. The taste is usually there but they don’t look pretty. I guess the baking gene skipped me somehow. HA!

My cookies always turn out too runny or too thick or burned or too gooey or just too something. I guess what I’m trying to say is they just always turn out wrong and it is so frustrating!! I have seen these recipes for cake batter cookies floating around Facebook and Pinterest for a while now but never really paid attention to them.

red velvet

Well the other day I was at Target and they had all of their Valentine’s baking stuff on display and I decided to grab a red velvet cake mix fully intending on making some cupcakes to take to work for my birthday. I got home and realized I forgot the icing so I had to kill that idea, just my luck, but then I remembered all of those recipes I had seen for cake batter cookies and the idea was born!

Luckily I had some Valentine M&M’s on hand, those were always my Mom’s favorite candy and I always grab a bag of the holiday themed ones when I see them, and decided to throw them in my cookies mix and I think they turned out pretty damn good! I actually didn’t burn them, they look cute, and the taste is on point!!

If you have read this blog for any length of time or at least read my foodie recipes then you know I love to make things as simply as possible. I also love to customize recipes and you can totally do that with this recipe. The recipe I used is below but you can totally substitute the cake mix for any flavor and add any candy or just make them plain. They are sure to turn out great!!

Happy baking!
