WILW: Coconut Oil

Today I am sharing a very new love of my life with you…Coconut Oil!!!

coconutoil

Since summer has officially set in here in the south I have been looking for a good moisturizer and I swear a light went off in my head one day and I was like DUH! Coconut oil! I have read so much in the past couple of months about coconut oil and all that it can be used for and I was excited to find it at my local Kroger. Now I have heard of people buying their coconut oil from beauty departments or go all organic and get the “extra virgin” versions but after all the research I did I realized that the good ole LouAna from the cooking section of the grocery store was just as good. And y’all know me, I love a good deal and this giant tub of it was only $6. Done.

One thing you should know about coconut oil that I didn’t was that it comes in a solid form. It is literally a big ole tub of white solid oil. Coconut oil is so cool though because as soon as you run your finger across the top it melts. It’s awesome!!

So how have I used it? I primarily use my coconut oil as a moisturizer on my face at night after I wash my face before I go to bed. I just wash my face like normal and then slather on a good amount of coconut oil. I also rub it into my knees and elbows and even my cuticles. I have to admit that I was kind of disappointed that it didn’t; smell like a coconut but I got over that pretty quick.

I have also used my coconut oil on my chest and shoulders after a pretty good sunburn. I can’t say that it soothed it immediately but I can tell you that I definitely tanned a lot quicker with it. And by tanned I mean my burn turned to a tan, I promise I didn’t slather it all over me and then go tan. HA!

A couple uses for coconut that I want to try are as a hair mask and for oil pulling. I have wanted to oil pull for so long but am a big chicken!! I have a couple fillings and heard it was bad for fillings? I need to do more research!

This is not a sponsored post, I bought this oil myself and these are my honest opinions!

Have you ever used coconut oil?
Love it? Hate it?

I’ve used coconut oil in the past on my legs. I’ve never used it on my face, though. I’ll have to give it a try.

I use coconut oil for so many things. Totally body moisturizer, toddler hair, smoothies, in my coffee. I buy the raw coconut oil from the farmers market and it does smell like coconuts. I love it

Coconut oil? Oo.. I have to be on the hate side. Sorry! :( I don’t like anything about the taste/smell of coconuts. But I liked reading how you use it :)

This really did get me to thinking about using it on hair, too! I was glad to see another reader HAS used it on their hair. I may have to try these! Thank you!

My sister does this too! I just ran out of some (expensive) face oil and I really want to try coconut oil – did you have any clogging issues?

I just bought this brand too and was like, no smell? It is from a different part of the coconut, that is why there is no smell. It says it somewhere on the bottle. :-) Now I know LOL I love it though, I use that bottle in the kitchen and will buy another for when I want to ‘smell’ it.
