Everyone does it. You know you have. I’m freely admitting that I do it all the time. I have heard a lot of talk about it lately on social media and even the news. What am I talking about?
Selfies.
Ellen even had Bradley Cooper take one when she hosted the Oscars on Sunday.
I didn’t get to watch the Oscars but you better believe I heard all about that selfie.
Selfies can be a very powerful thing. I saw a short documentary on selfies/self-image the other day and it really made me think. The documentary showed a group of mothers and daughters who were tasked to take a selfie that was blown up and shown at an art gallery. You wouldn’t believe how many of them didn’t want to do it because they thought they weren’t pretty enough.
I don’t think selfies are about beauty. I think they are about being real, but apparently there are a lot of women who don’t think they are “pretty” enough to take one. I say just do it! If you don’t think you are pretty then who else will? It’s the whole love yourself first thing all over again….
But again, selfies aren’t about being pretty, they are about being you, the real you. Sure, I know that I only post the ones I like but still…
You are beautiful just the way you are. Trust me when I say that no one even sees that imperfection that only you are worrying about. In fact, your imperfections make you beautiful.
So go post a selfie or ten. And remember the next time you see one to tell that person they are beautiful!!

Yes! It is all about being fun. You don’t have to look perfect. I need to keep that in mind and take more!

I don’t take too many selfies because I hate being in front of the camera. I’m starting to regret this a little now, because I really want to be able to show my future kids how I look now. I guess I’ll need to hop onto this trend soon.

I don’t take many selfies because I always seem so awkward in them. Like do I smile? do I not smile? Where do I look? It’s just a lot of work so I don’t take too many. Maybe I should practice?

I think selfies can be a great self confidence booster. Of course there will always be people who over share, but taking a your own picture on a day you feel great and sharing it with the world and having people respond in a positive manner gives confidence. We may be considered self absorbed, but I think it is showing self love.

I must admit that I will take 15 pictures to get that PERFECT selfie. I have suffered from have low self esteem when I was younger. Sometimes it rears it’s ugly head, but the older I get the more I am in love with myself. I LOVE to take selfies now. I think more women should embrace them.

I am a self-proclaimed “selfie-whore”. I love them and take them proudly. I also am addicted to instagram filters and filter images that I never even post online! #sorrynotsorry :)

I have slacked on my selfie-taking since I graduated college – the days of having time to dress up for no reason at all. I thought I would be more fashionable and savvy in the real world, but I only get fancy on weekends… thank you for re-kindling my selfie-love! =0

I’m forever taking a selfie, check out my Instagram page! LOL! When I’m feeling myself, I stop what I’m doing and take a selfie. No shame! You have a great selfie by the way! Visiting you from #SitsShareFest.

I always think my selfies look horrible. I think I look one way and then I take the picture and I think I look terrible. And lets not talk about trying to take on in the mirror. Forget it. Your’s looks absolutely adorable though. Stopping by from SITS a day late.
