Happy Monday! It’s officially the last January Monday in 2018. Today is also my Dad’s 61st birthday. Last year I forgot to call him and he called me about 8pm, sang himself Happy Birthday and hung up. Clearly I need to do better this year or he will never let me live it down that I forgot his birthday two years in a row. Oops!
In my last Friday Five I mentioned I went to see Finding Neverland at the Orpheum Theater in Memphis with my bestie/college roomie Cherika! It was kind of weird because I have been riding solo at the theater for a long time but it was also nice to have someone to share the experience with! I swear I got a photo of us but we both looked like goobers so I also swore not to put it online. HA! True friends y’all…
Before the show we went to the Hard Rock to eat. I got the Grilled Chicken Sandwich and Parmesan Fries and I am not even ashamed to say that I ate every single bite on my plate. The sandwich reminded me of the old school Sonic grilled chicken back when it came on a regular toasted bun and was dripping with honey mustard. Not the new sandwich which is on a weird bun and comes slathered in mayo. Gross! This one is amazing and I will definitely be getting it again!
Let me preface this post by saying that I hadn’t seen the movie (Finding Neverland) before this so I didn’t really know what it was about. Except I obviously knew it had something to do with Peter Pan. Sometimes I like to go into shows not knowing anything about them because then I don’t have anything else to compare them too. That being said I freaking LOVED this show!!
So basically it’s about the man who wrote Peter Pan and his inspiration behind the story. It’s also about learning how to play and be a kid again which I think is an important lesson. Sometimes people are way too serious and can use a little play time.
Of course there is a sad element, which al plays have, and this is the *SPOILER ALERT* death of the children’s mother. Having lost my own mother (and Cherika having lost hers as well) we both sobbed through this part! But don’t worry, the show ends on a high note and we left the theater smiling. It really is a fantastic show and if you get the chance to see it I really hope you go! It is worth it!!
As I am sure you have noticed I am a huge fan of musicals. I have written about all of the shows I have gone to see and I have kept all of my tickets and programs throughout the years. That being said I would love to do something with these programs other than have them sit in a drawer in my dining room. I think I want to frame them and hang them up in my bedroom. They are so bright and colorful and all have wonderful memories attached to them. Have you done something like this??
Anyway, I better go and fingers crossed I remember to call my Dad today! HA!
Do you like musical theater??
Have you seen Finding Neverland (the show or movie)??

We had theatre in Flagstaff called the “Orpheum”. Anyway, I would be crying during the parts where the kids lose their mother too. I think its neat to hear the backstory about the writer of Peter Pan.

Your dad sounds hilarious. I hope you wished him a happy birthday before he did it himself this year. I could probably eat a whole bucket of those fries right now.

I am super excited to see this remake of the movie and the book. I saw the movie a long while back, maybe 2005 or 06? I don’t know, but I know I loved the whole story.
