Halloween is over, Thanksgiving is in three weeks and Christmas is next month. I think it’s safe to say that the holiday season is in full swing. I feel like I have talked about this topic a lot on here lately but remember this post I wrote about losing weight? I haven’t written an update to that yet and I need to but all you need to know is that losing weight is still HARD, especially this time of year!! Can I get an AMEN??
For me losing weight is all about changing my lifestyle by eating better and eating smaller meals more frequently so I don’t ever have that OMG I’M STARVING feeling and eat everything in the house and getting more active. I feel like it’s easier to do those things in the spring and summer months when it’s warm outside and when you aren’t tempted by the buckets of leftover Halloween candy that your co-workers bring to work with them. You know what I mean?? I love you co-workers but please don’t tempt me!! HA!!
So this year I am vowing to try and stay healthy during the holiday season and my goals aren’t necessarily to lose weight but to not gain weight and keep active. So how I am going to pull that one off? Let me tell you my plan…
ONE. Stay Active. I am going to keep walking Sophie at the park as often as I can. It got cold in central Arkansas for a few days and while it was harder to get started it was so worth it when we were done. There is just something about getting outside and moving around that just makes me feel good! I need a contingency plan for when it gets super cold or is raining, like it has been doing here a lot lately, so I am working on that but my goal is to get outside and get moving at least 4x per week.
TWO. Drink more water. I gave up drinking pretty much anything other than water over a year ago but have been slipping up when I go to the movies. There is just something about watching a movie, eating that yummy buttery popcorn and drinking a fizzy drink! I need to quit that because I always feel gross afterwards and get back on the water train!! My goal is to drink half my body weight in ounces of water a day.
THREE. Get more sleep. I don’t know what it is but here lately I can’t sleep for more than 5 hours at a time. I know my body needs at least 7-8 hours, especially since I am working nights now, but that has been so hard lately! Maybe the time change will help??
FOUR. Limit sugar intake. I can’t even tell you how many times I have “treated” myself to candy and cookies and cake and snacks that are loaded with sugar. I blame it on “that time of the month” but I can’t use that excuse every day. I am good about not keeping any tempting food at home but when I’m out of the house it’s a completely different story…I am so bad!! And while I think you should eat sugar (and anything else) in moderation I know that I have been overdoing it lately and that needs to stop.
